And related to #2 above -- Which hospitals do you donate comics to?

I have H info but have to post later, paperwork not on me at this juncture. Even a lot of Forum members here too when they had a sick relative

That paperwork must be in DEEP storage huh?

Can't just give us names of the hospitals?

Since you are pulling the paperwork anyway, get us dates, amounts, and the hospital's contact person name and number. Thanks

Some interesting info popped up on Comics General today, and it directly relates to the questions we asked and the *cough* "answers" we have gotten so far.

First the question and answers from earlier:

Next up...you can't control what "sponsors" sell online? Heidi Spidey is just a "sponsor"

Yes Heidi Spidey chooses to donate to Comics4Kids and our combined efforts knowing there is no personal gain for her at this time.

Even though it's clear this is where you sell all your items and the "about me" is ALL ABOUT YOU, and that when you click on the hotlink under any of the scans of the books at the top of that page it takes you to YOUR myspace page, let's take a look at that claim that it's a "sponsor's" doing, and you have no control.

No one uses myspace that is a data storage only

Heidi Spidey is a "sponsor" now? totally out of your control? Has nothing to do with you other than being a "sponsor"?

She's not your girlfriend/fiance/significant other?

I am in a relationship (sorry to disappoint, guys) ~ Those posters are not mine. Clearly adult items cannot be passed on to the kids. Some have trememndous secondary value. Items sold to raise money to buy applicable comics for kids. eBay members have to be 18 to bid. eBay also censors anything illegal. There is no complicity heading into actual Comics4Kids literature or daily business.

So Heidi Spidey's real last name isn't Moore then?

Damn...this is so disappointing...I kept hoping that it was simply someone in over their head with the labyrinth of regulations/agencies you have to work through to get official status.

More and more, it continues to look like something less well intentioned than that. If that is that is the case and this couple is using the premise of helping children to benefit personally, it is unconscionable.

Is there anyone in the area that can request a more formal inquiry by either tax collection or law enforcement officials? It certainly seems like some fairly serious questions need to be answered here.

I still think it's a laziness/disorganization/slack attitude towards crossing T's and dotting I's.

Maybe that's my optimism, I don't know.

Of course the level of snark in the responses to real questions, combined with the improbable explanations and half answers to (what should be) simple questions has my optimism on the wane. If you are really trying to help kids, and have this many gaping holes in the process and organization you should expect people to question you hard and you should answer every question with as little evasion as possible.

Has that happened so far?

Personally, if I had so many personal problems that I couldn't complete a 3 months paperwork process in less than 16+ years, with no end in sight, I may need someone to tell me to my face that I might not be the right person to be steering this ship.

This has gone on for too many years, right here on this board, and the answers are still mostly smoke.

Likewise, I (perhaps naively) hold out hope as well. :wishluck:

But I'd still like an answer to the hospitals question. Honestly, I didn't think it was such a brain teaser. I assume he was receiving donations at least up until 2010... how hard can it be to rattle off a couple places books were sent to a mere 1-2 years ago? I do want to believe the guy is legit but it's hard not to find that a bit ominous.

He was set up last weekend at NO taking donations and solicited a bunch of stuff right here on the boards in the week that preceded it.

The info should be right there in the old short term memory.

In his postings here in 2006 and 2007 he's talking about Steve Lauterbach giving him $60,000 worth of comics, and someone else giving him $100k in books. Shouldn't be too hard to name some names.

Anyone can see by the old threads that were posted that Dr. Neff has consistently avoided answering any substantial questions regarding his charity. That includes questions in this thread.

He has done nothing but dance around direct questions that any "charity" would gladly answer. Not only has he been given a chance to answer questions directly in this thread but he has had a chance to answer some of the same questions for five years.

Aside from some of these questions, why can't the good Dr. come up with any evidence that he actually has given some books to any kids? Some pics of the good Dr. unloading some boxes in the hospital loading dock? Some pics with a box of comics and some real doctors

and nurses in the hospital? Some pics with some of the kids? Black out their faces if you are concerned about privacy.

Not only would that shut up the naysayers at that point but it would be great marketing and a better way to solicit some donations as opposed to selling pornography posters depicting an underage girl. Oh wait, that was just your "sponsor" named heidispidey and I am sure no relation to the Heidi Moore listed above.

I want nothing more than Dr. Neff to prove me wrong. I am not getting warm and fuzzy feelings though. Nobody wants to call out a "charity" but when simple questions are ignored and danced around or flat out misleading, what are people supposed to think?

This board and the people that populate it can do some amazing things when they are united for a cause. I personally would embrace every question and try to enlist as many people as I could on these boards if I were running a charity for kids. I see lots of.spinning and dodging and not much on the embracing side.

Nobody wants to call out a "charity"

Some of the most egregious things I've ever seen in 14 years of practice were done by "charities." If it walks like a duck, it ain't an emu.

Is it a witch?

FYI, to those not well informed in the differentiation of such :foryou:

Seeing Lighthouse school Dr. Neff on business matters made this one more than worth the click. :D

 Man if those folks who made those donations and wrote off the amounts on their taxes get audited.

Thankfully the statute of limitations for the IRS is only 3 years, so people that made donations in 2008 or earlier are now in the clear. But, the statute is still open for tax years 2009 forward. If any donors were playing the audit lottery, they may still be exposed.

I just don't understand why they haven't filed the paperwork with the IRS; typically the IRS is pretty understanding about the application process and will cut the organization a break in getting their paperwork together and the application correct. Heck, he should have gone to his local bar association to see if there's a local attorney that can help him pro bono.

But, my recommendation at this point, given all the history, is to walk away from C4K (which is inactive anyway), and just start fresh. Actually, strike that. My advice is just to walk away from the whole idea. Clearly this isn't something that Dr. Neff is passionate about (since he hasn't gotten to square two in 16 years). While a commendable idea, it's just an idea. I'd leave it to people better suited to actually accomplish the goals of readership and art for the children.

Everyone interested in the comics4kids debacle and who wanted more answers, might want to head over to Comics General.

The good Dr. Neff might have abandoned the reasonable and simple questions in this thread, but he popped up in general and....

Greggy dropped the hammer of ultimate truth and destruction upon his brow....

Not to be missed.

Love seeing a book go up for sale here in hopes of selling before a high outlier price gets normalized in GPA by a more reasonable market price in the weekly Heritage auction. "Strike while the iron is hot" is the phrase that comes to mind. And when the iron is crazily reported in GPA. And when the iron is probably going to close for a more "in-line" market price at the end of the week. doh!
