Absolutely agreed. Although from the small stack of these I've put together so far, I have to wonder ... what on earth did the Brits have against square corners on these books? Was Logan running from the hounds of Tindalos over there or something? Much of this run hasn't even had the UK versions slabbed at all, so I could get top of census for the price of admission, but I'm sure there are some really sexy copies out there, waiting for me. Somewhere.

In contrast, some day, it's going to bug me a little bit that only #4-7 come with MJIs, but that's probably down the road.

There's a great question, what is the longest run you can get in UKPPVs?

Sure Steve can tell us in a second. Was thinking it might be Two in One but remembered the early ones were ND here..

I had to look it up!

Ms Marvel has the longest UKPV run where all issues in the title exist as pence copies (1-23) closely followed by The Fly with all 19 issues in the title existing in pence. Captain America has the longest unbroken pence run of 78 issues (176-253). Good shout on Marvel Two-In-One though Neil - it has an unbroken run of 61 pence issues (11-71).

HELP WANTED!

To all those in the UK who read this thread, can you check your collections, records and memories and tell me whether any of you have a copy of, or can recall seeing another copy of this comic in pence:

104.thumb.jpg.f46e1c9fc44d6b13837e325cf829d8e9.jpg

It's the last pence cover month - December 1981 - and I have only ever seen this one copy.

I know it's a reprint title, and the numbers produced may therefore have been low, but one copy in ten years seems odd to me.

Anyone?

:wishluck:

I don't recall if anyone responded to this call, but I have seen a couple more copies since posting about it so it's not alone. That said, some of these final UKPVs appear to crop up as infrequently as some of the early ones so if you see them, snag them while you can.

Isn't Gary selling one on the Bay at this very moment? Or is that the lone copy you refer to?

No, the copy in the thread is mine Robot - it's just a nice coincidence that there's one on the bay right now.

Morning :)

I just posted this in the double bubble zone, but it's about time this thread of mine got a bump too. As well as being a nice image replacement for my "this comic exists in pence" folder - the previous example was a bit iffy - it's a fairly uncommon early double cover UKPV:

KidColtOutlaw12510dUKPVDoubleCover.thumb.jpg.06a8a01a26f0e85240ab0344fced6d68.jpg

Nice Kids aren't they, Colt and Two-Gun. Rawhide must've been on holiday.

See ya :)

I didn't even realize these existed in this format, but found out reading RareComics Pence Price Variant Issue Guide (Marvel & DC) and went back to check @Get Marwood & I previous posts, but couldn't find the relevant thread on these. Is there a link to the aforementioned (on page #1 of this thread) Google Doc/Google Drive scans?

Very nice! :cloud9:

There are 23 pence copies off the top of my head, EDAS. I'll post the table that I put together later when I'm on my PC.

Thanks @Get Marwood & I

I missed one in the orginal batch as well, Astonishing Spider-Man #18. which features reprints of Marvel Team-up #4 (X-Men), #12 (Werewolf By Night), #15 (Ghost Rider) and #31 (Iron Fist). Love the cover homage to Paul McCartney and Wings "Band On The Run" LP.

So, I just picked this up at a recent UK auction. Who knows if I overpaid, but excited to see what I find, pence copies galore!

The description was a gem: COMICS: FOUR TRAYS OF MARVEL COMICS, TO INCLUDE CAPTAIN AMERICA 100, X-MEN 28 ETC., AND THOR ETC. in the midst of what looks like a house clearance.

Some nice stamp and stickered cents copies in there, 35c, as well as the UKPVs. A fun lot to sift through indeed for the budding UK distribution fan :)

I'm sure you got these at a price you deemed fair Steve. I don't do much buying these days but I do tend not to use the auction houses because of the great slab of fees they slap on and then the high charges of the mailing agencies.
Lots of fun unboxing though. and as you say lots of pence issues.
Have fun.

I didn't buy them Stephen - 35c did. I was just commenting on the photos he posted. I can't remember the last time I bought in bulk like that as it goes. I did have a go at an auction lot in person the other year. That was cool going through them, loads of books up my alley. I didn't win, but the ones I really wanted found me eventually, funnily enough.

I really must read all of the recent posts before I jump in with a stupid comment, sorry.

It's easily done with the quoting format here. It didn't help that the owner's board name was 35c - made it look like part of my book commentary
