goldust40
Always an upbeat and positive force at all the San Diego Cons I attended, and without question one of the cornerstones of the hobby. Dreadful news, more so because it was unexpected. What a loss for the hobby. Condolences to his friends and family. Popular Post Robot Man
Wow, what a thing to wake up to. First thing I saw when I logged on this morning... I wasn't nearly as close to John as many of you were. I did go to his store in Alhambra on a regular basis. I also interacted with him at many shows at the Ambassador Hotel and Shrine in the early '80's. Always a great guy. Very friendly, passionate and fun to talk to. I would always joke about his "nose bleed" prices at SDCC. Just when you thought you had seen everything, he would whip out some super high grade beauty and just suck the wind outta me. The hobby has lost a titan and we are all less because of it. I'm sure John is talking the ears off of Edgar Church right now. Rest in Peace John. The hobby is in good hands and you will be missed. telerites
Oh wow, sad news. Such great memories of the Comic Heaven auctions even when online dominated, it was a refreshing blast to sub my bids like I always did. His and Wooley's were my two favorites. I had the good fortune to meet him at a convention and he was so pleasant and an engaging talker. He remembered me from the auctions, what a memory and nice man. RIP. Popular Post sacentaur
John's selling prices were often "nosebleed" true, but if you were willing to listen to him then he would work with you. Just before I bought my home in the early 90's, John came over to my apartment and we spent an afternoon geeking over comics. He purchased some sweet books from me (e.g., San Fran pedigree More Fun's), and paid very fairly. Last year at SDCC, I reminded him about that particular visit and he still remembered the exact books he obtained that day! Comic Heaven is quite appropriate - you will be missed, John. KirbyJack
I got my current copy of Fantastic Four 5 thru one of the mail auctions. It's the last comic in my collection from one. I had always intended to upgrade it, but maybe now I won't. Badger and 1950's war comics

Popular Post Robot Man
Somehow, I just don't feel like posting books or chattering much today after this news but I had to share my favorite book I got from John. Got it many years ago at SDCC. He knew how much I liked Namora and Timelys. He pulled this out of a box under the table when I walked up. Sold it to me for a very good price since he knew I was cheap and how much I loved the character. He was very proud of himself as my eyes lit up like a jack-o-lantern. I didn't even argue. I'm sure my kids will be selling it at the garage sale when my time comes... sacentaur, lhcomics, Ricksneatstuff and 9 others

Popular Post RareHighGrade
John was one of a kind. He was one of the most knowledgeable and experienced collectors in our community, and had a passionate love for comics and their history that few of us can match. As a dealer, he was even more unique. He was the most kind, generous and thoughtful person I ever had the pleasure of doing business with. He was loved not only by me, but also by my wife and children who were heartbroken to hear the sad news. Our hobby will never be the same.
