Was watching part of the HA Sunday Auction earlier this evening and it's nice to see that there's still some love for the Seven Seas books:  :luhv:

Have always loved this cover here and sadly, the only one now missing from my Seven Seas run and looks like I won't be getting a copy any time soon as this nicely presenting mid-grade copy sold for $5,040.  :applause:

I like the Seven Seas books. They run hot and cold, though. I own a VF/NM copy of no. 4. I paid $3,450 for it in 2001 (about $5,166 in 2021 dollars), and in 2004 I tried to sell it while I was out of work. The highest offer I got was $2,000. I'm glad I didn't accept the offer.

I’m always curious in these staple replacement situations, what kind of staples get put in their place? Do you think they’re like staples from the general time frame, or could they be Action 1 staples the restorer had laying around? Or just some kind of newer staple?

Same type of staples from the time frame, from what I've been told. At least that's the goal of a good restoration artist.

That definitely makes the most sense. I guess just a nice bonus if you happen to have staples from another copy of whatever you're restoring.

There needs to be a difference between brand new staples and replacement similar from the time period. Given this issue could cost Action #1 100's of thousand of dollars in an auction return or private sale..this item needs to on top of the CGC to do list.

Totally agree.  Might argue that the difference should not be 100s of thousands of dollars, especially if someone could buy it with "newer" staples and then just replaced the replaced staples with vintage ones.  But the market is what it is.  Slabbing should provide as much information as possible, the idea being not to encourage deception, or emotional responses based on the presumption of it, but to remove the buyer's fear of deception and to provide detailed, verified information what was (and just as importantly what was not) done to a book.

I just love that Contact #12 cover. It just screams classic comic book to me. I'm also following the Eerie Comics #1, Captain America Comics #74, Startling comics #46, Venus #1 and a few others. Won't be bidding on them but seeing all these new top census books come up makes it hard to ignore.

Lots of high prices on the Silver and Bronze era books in this Sunday auction, but this Detective 35 I think went a little low at 8,400.

PLOD and SB. Looks pretty but unless you have a Sith like ability to alchemy the CGC label to blue with lovely CR/OW pages this is not the one I’d want to overpay for.

I know as in any horse race, some are quicker out of the starting gates than others, and some wait for the home stretch before finding top gear. But this one is off to a relatively slow start. I’ve happily owned these in the past, but I can’t say I ever pulled this book out of the box and said to myself “Now that’s a satisfying cover”.

How many times do you see a head being cut off all about the shock value
