I finally got a copy of this book. It cost me around 3X guide, but I can't wait for it to arrive early next week. Here's a scan sent to me by the dealer:

Congrats skybolt.

That is one awsome book. Multiples of guide doesn't mean a thing when it's going into your vault for a while. I always value the golden age books so much more highly than silver, bronze etc. I can never see paying even guide for those, but for the books that you've been picking up, throw out the guide.

Excellent...

I'll get rid of it on November 1st. It's from the 1977 Italian horror film "Suspiria".

Thanks "thedude", I appreciate the congrats. thumbsup2.gif

Thanks Comicdey, you're absolutely right.

It's amazing how I try to haggle over paying $10 or $20 extra for an 8.5 copy of Conan #1, but am willing to purchase these GGA books without any hesitation. I almost feel that even if they lose 50% of their value over time, it wouldn't bother as much as losing 5% on an SA or BA book. I guess it's because I love them so much. The only way I'm selling these books is if I really needed the money badly, or if/when I get married and my wife makes me. grin.gif

I think I've listed this before, but it always changes. This is my tenative list subject to change:

1. ) Phantom Lady #17 - I'm not a bandwagon type of guy, but that is one amazing cover.

2.) Blue Beetle #54 - I love Kamen art, and that is arguably his best cover.

3.) Junior #14 - I love the Junior covers, and this one is the best.

4.) Brenda Starr #14 - Another great Kamen cover (he's my favorite by the way).

5.) Torchy #4 - Hubba, hubba.

6.) Phantom Lady #23 - A notch lower than #17. Very sexy cover.

7.) Jo-Jo Comics #11 - An extremely underrated cover. Just beautiful.

8.) Seven Seas #4 - I could also pick #6, but I'll go with this one.

9.) Blue Beetle #49 - This is the book that got me hooked on good girl art. It's very similar to the Brenda Starr issue.

10.) Jungle Comics #85 - The best out of the Jungle/Jumbo covers IMO.

Honorable mentions would be Blue Beetle #48,52, Wonder Comics #15, Startling #49, Junior #13, 15, 16, Planet Comics #53. I love the Rangers, Fight, Rulah and other covers, but the ones on top are my favorite.

What are your top ten?

Great list. You have identified most, if not all of the classic covers. My top 5 would be:

1) Phantom Lady 17

2) Blue Beetle 54

3) Phantom Lady 23

4) Brenda Starr 14

5) Blue Beetle 52

#6 through #10 are too hard for me to to figure out, but they are probably included in the other books you listed.

No love for Xela's Wonder and Startling covers?

I love these covers, but the Kamen and Baker covers have a bit more realistic look to them.

You want realism in your funny books?

For me, Xela's airbrush covers are my favs. He was lightyears ahead of the rest of the magazine industry. Playboy didn't start airbrushing their magazine until decades later. smirk.gif

Oh, and here is a neat Xela website I found.

What are your top ten?

Sorry, been away on a business trip the last few days.

There are times when I have a great deal of difficulty deciding a top 5 or a top 10. GGA is one of those that requires way to many brain cells, especially when there is so much to appreciate even with the also-rans. Then there's the problem that good girls were included on the covers of so many genres (horror: Mr. Mystery 6, sci-fi: Planet 71, jungle: Lorna 23, western: Cow Puncher 5, superhero: Spirit 22 -- these aren't necessarily the favorite just the first ones to come to mind). Then you start considering great artists that weren't strictly good girl like Schomburg (Startling 49) or LB Cole (Terrifying Tales 13) and you're soon pulling whatever hair you have left.

If you made me choose between the top 10 (assuming I could figure them out) or the next 90, I would choose the next 90 without thinking twice.

Even so, I'll attempt to provide a partial answer. Within the Fox good girls, I find myself generally enjoying Baker, then Kamen, then Feldstein. With Baker, my favs would be something like Seven Seas 6, Seven Seas 4, PL 17, PL 16, PL 18.

Thanks.

I have to ask why you included Planet #71 on your list. Don't get me wrong, the overall cover is fantastic, but the GGA part of it is not one that's typically mentioned.

Well, I was writing quickly. I could have cited any number of Planets that would be viewed more conventionally as GGA, though I especially like ones at the end of the run like 66, 70, 72. The 71 portrays the female form at quite an unusual angle and I love the curves of the left hip and leg. Besides, if AdamStrange didn't have Alanna, she'd be the one he'd go out with (jet pack/ray gun etc).

I think I can imagine the fantasy angle there. wink.gif
