I’ve been able to acquire some of Joe Sinnott’s personal file copies of his Atlas work. Most of these were comps he received. In the 50’s, Joe went down to NYC from the Hudson Valley to get his assignments at the Atlas offices. He was allowed to take from the newsstand that Atlas ran in the lobby of their office building up to three copies of anything he worked on.

Before his passing, with the help of a friend, he and his son identified the undercopies and sold them off. Joe then signed and retained the remaining nicest copy of each. (Joe signed on the margin of the first page of each story he worked on in a book; some are signed multiple times.) After his passing, his family began to release them. These are a few of mine; not all will be keepers but I am still deciding. (I believe the PCH books were not comps as they are not as high-grade as the others. Joe did fill in gaps in his archives with lower-grade back issue purchases if he did not receive comps.)

Been on a bit of an Atlas Western tear lately. Posted here for your enjoyment.  Let's start with ...

Western Outlaws 13; this lovely Maneely cover/copy was once owned by Jim Vadeboncoeur, and contains art by Baker, Pike, Andru, Maneely and Romita; just 2 on the census, the highest being a 9.0.

Two Gun Western 13; Maneely and Pike goodness; only 4 on the census.

Ringo Kid 15 & 16; Maneely goodness; former Vadeboncoeur copies. Only two 15s on the census; more 16s (8).

Outlaw Kid 18 & 19; the 18 is a former Vadeboncoeur copy, and has Maneely/Williamson art. There are only 4 on the census, the highest being an 8.0. Apparently, Matt Baker was wanted on a number of different fronts. The 19 is a Severin cover, with a little bit of Burgos inside. There's only 1 on the census, also an 8.0.

Wild Western 35, 42, 46, 50 & 56. Census copies range from 1 to 6 for these issues. Maneely covers on all, and some Baker in the 56.

If only Joe Maneely hadn't suffered that tragic accident....

Joe Maneely & Bill Everett are my 2 fave Atlas guys. No-one deserves what happened to Joe just by forgetting his specs I think or breaking them. Something like that.
