Hopefully, this won't disrupt the continuity of the thread. This is one of a dozen or so Batman I kept from Williamsport. One of favorite covers. What colors. OK, I'll find one more Superman to get back on track. Pretend this never happened.

Very nice books! :applause: I wish my wife's thoughts were to keep everything. (worship)

Do you have any Actions?

Ironically, there were only a handful of Action and Detective. There is some speculation that some were sold years ago by the original owner as inside a Gerber Photo Journal he had a list of comics which included Detective 27.

When I was a television Sports Photographer I used to go to Williamsport all the time to shoot minor league baseball games. Of course, I would always arrange my time so I could stop at a comic shop or two. One year, a guy told me someone offered him a Detective 27 which looked Fine for 6,700. This was the 1980's mind you. The Comic Shop guy said, "No, that's too much." He never saw the guy again.

So who knows (The Shadow?) whether there was another part which was sold off. I found it peculiar that Detective 27 was written in the book. Maybe it was just a coincidence. They are long gone either way.

I forget what number this graded. Love the cover.

I hope you enjoyed the story. My wife IS a Saint. "Oh honey, I spent our retirement savings on Funny Books today. "WHAT?" "Don't worry Dear, it will all work out." At the time it was quite a frustrating decision to spend all that money. I had never done anything like that before. Of that magnitude anyway.

Another nice Williamsport. Superman wondering where the Detective 27 went.

I am looking for James Bama and Bob Larkin Doc Savage Paintings if anyone has any or knows where one is. I'd even trade COMICS. Please don't tell my wife though.

Here's what some Superman looked like when I first took them out of the bag.

It was actually quite confusing. The earlier issues were lower grade in a lot of cases. So, if you were trying to figure what they were worth, it was very tricky. Those early issues was where the money was. It was a shoot. From #50 on, I couldn't help but notice they looked unread. But they weren't the expensive books as they are fairly low in the guide. Boy, did I agonize over it. At the time I paid 80% of guide on top of it. They actually wanted more.

The books were in old comic bags which had started to yellow so they really weren't very pretty at the time. I will remember that sinking feeling I had inside that I was gambling my family's future away. I'll keep that with me for the rest of my life. I had never taken a chance like that before. To that extent anyway. I just got lucky.

One more early Supe down!

if anyone knows Rich Winters, tell him I have his book :gossip:

The guy from Band of Brothers was Rich Winters. Remember the fellow who was in charge of the platoon?

That Rich Winters is from Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Any insight as to why only 4.5 ??!! Did the bottom tenth of book get chopped off literally?? My god, what a beautiful looking book, can't figure it out from the scan .............and too bad about that huge "Rich Winters" thing, why would he do such a thing---- it does not look like a signature of a young boy, but a purposeful act by a young adult at the very least..................... (shrug)

Amazing books, Rich!

The #3 is what really does it for me. Stunning eye appeal there. I was just thinking this morning how nice it would be to upgrade my beater copy...

Thanks!

The #3 is my favorite as well (though 23 is way up there). Something about the design and color of that train on a yellow background.
