So what happened? it didn’t sell at 1/- so they stickered it at 9d, it still didn’t sell so they thought what the heck 2/-?

Who knows, Gary. I'm not even sure if the diamond stamp is T&P's. It shares some characteristics of course, but I don't recall anyone finding a smoking gun that actually links it to them.

This 2/- stamp appears on books at least as late as 1974, well after decimalisation.

More the opposite, perhaps?  The T&P copies of Avengers #25 were UKPV's, so God knows how this fits in.  Note also the numbering above the price which maybe indicates that stamps were just made like that?

Yes, a lot of the images I have saved over the years are from around that time - here's a gaggle of Feb '74  Kamadi's, which imply something systematic:

Hard to work out what was going on with these really.

They're not mine and the image doesn't blow up well. They look to all be 2 shillings but the numbers aren't clear enough. Possibly a 1 on one of them.
