Gal Gadot Developing Wonder Woman 3 With James Gunn, Peter Safran (Exclusive)

Quote

Speaking to ComicBook.com's Chris Killian for her new Netflix movie Heart of Stone, Gadot said that, as she understands it, she will be developing Wonder Woman 3 together with Gunn and Safran. "I love portraying Wonder Woman," Gadot says.

"It's so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we're gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together."

Gunn and Safran's plans for Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe are unclear at this point. Currently, there is no Wonder Woman movie among the DC movies included in the slate of projects for Chapter One of the DC Universe, called "Gods and Monsters."

It's crazy how incompetent WB's executives have been for about a decade, now. It's not that difficult to simply shut up prior to locking your plan in. How WW3 could be divorced from the DCEU is beyond comprehension; Audiences won't be able to do it.

Part of me thinks this is just a 'working title' issue and it actually isn't WW3. With the Amazon show also on their slate I could see a case for this just being a brand new WW movie with no connection to the DCEU and casting Gadot in another role (perhaps as Hippolyta, or cameo as WW from another timeline ugh)

In a way that could 'work', though I can't see the "why" in something like that right now.

I don't actually think DC is *doing* anything. I think they are basically Theranos at this point - saying they've got "projects" in the works and "in talks" with actors, etc. Everything is on some sort of forward-looking timetable, and things either get forgotten or they are released with such a hallf-assed effort - there's no possible way that anyone with a sense of direction is in charge. Warner Brothers is making so much money on streaming that there really isn't any need to police the consistency of anything - because for every one complainer on the internet, there's 10 streaming subscribers that could care less.

I think you are right with that comment.

It’s funny - years ago (like 2006-2009) I was involved with a lot of zero budget horror movie people who would attend conventions like Fangoria, etc. I was selling design services, so I was making the rounds to various cons several times a year.

I began to notice a trend: some guys trying to find “investors” to dump a few thousand bucks into their projects were touting “being in talks with XX actor” etc. and using that to bolster their legitimacy.

It wasn’t until I did some work for one of these guys that he confided in me that all the claiming of “being in talks” with someone was simply sending an email to an actor or agent and that’s it. That was all that people in that industry did to claim they were “in talks” with someone. If they didn’t answer an email - it wasn’t necessarily a “no”. If they said “no”, the spin would be that they were approached and turned down the role. You see the angle they are working.

The movie biz if full of shysters at every budget level. Just because it’s WB doesn’t mean they are any more legitimate than the guy doing soft porn horror films and promoting at Fango.

WB has investors on the line, and they will make up stuff to keep the money flowing, and they have massive monthly income from streaming. Couple that with absolute idiocy at the executive level and you have a recipe for a colossal train wreck at some point.

I would be surprised if they did a WWIII with Gal Gadot, but I guess it's still possible.  Despite the fiasco that was WWII, there's probably still enough residual goodwill from the first film that - if they had a good, stand alone, story - they might consider making it.  Wonder Woman doesn't appear to even be in the "first wave" of new DC projects anyway, so, they could do a Gal Gadot stand alone thing, and then, in a couple years, introduce the "new" Wonder Woman of their new continuity.

Again, don't think it especially likely, but remotely possible.

I wonder if they will do a WW's daughter play on a new lead? Sired by Steve Trevor, raised by the Amazons in secret. Since I bought a couple of copies of WW #800 just in case, Trinity would be a great name.

Thankfully, this was debunked by Gunn this morning.  This was definitely one of the most bizarre rumors regarding the DCU.

"Debunked" has taken on new meaning. I would term it "creative confusion".

Creative confusion is one way to put it.

Per this Variety article, either Gadot lied, or Gunn did.

Unfortunately, a pattern is coming together.

James Gunn Confirms Talks With Former BATMAN Actor Ben Affleck To Helm Upcoming DCU Project

Now, James Gunn has confirmed that talks have indeed taken place.

Ben Affleck Will Never Direct a DC Movie Under James Gunn: ‘Absolutely Not’

Quote

“I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not,” Affleck said in a The Hollywood Reporter cover story. “I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.”
