That didn't work out to well for them with the remake of "The Little Mermaid".  Budget of $250million + $100 Million marketing for an all in of $350 million (that we know of).  Little Mermaid had a WW gross of $560 million, so split that in half, Disney received $280 million back, still $70 million short of break even.

If Disney wants to make an empowering movie, that is awesome, go with something new like "Barbie".  That movie is going to blow away the reboot of the Little Mermaid, and yeah it will blow away this reboot of Snow White.  Make new stuff and leave the classics alone.

This requires talented, imaginative writers, but Disney hires activists who can spell.

One thing that struck me from some of Zegler’s comments is her disdain of the original animated film and from the time when it was released.

from Wikipedia

In 1989, the United States Library of Congressdeemed the film "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and selected it as one of the first 25 films for preservation in the National Film Registry.[5] The American Film Institute ranked it among the 100 greatest American films, and also named the film as the greatest American animated film of all time in 2008.

To be fair, the present generation looking back with reproof at past generations is an important institution. Apple can remake SW again in 15 or 20 years.

That's an excellent way to describe what Zegler is doing (thumbsu

Clearly, you are not the target audience.  Don't go to see it, your perogative prerogative.

The movie may very well be a bomb.  Hollywood makes lots of them, across a variety of viewpoints.  But that doesn't change that audiences are diverse, and there are lots of people holding lots of views who enjoy seeing movies that you wouldn't.

The original Disney film is in no jeopardy.  It's been selected by the Library of Congress as one of the first 25 films for preservation in the National Film Registry.  The American Film Institute named it as the greatest American animated film of all time.  None of this will be impacted one iota by a remake that's either badly made, of a completely different type of story, or both.

and pardon the pet peeve--the word you were looking for is "prerogative."   your error and "unchartered waters" both drive me batty.

I'll fix it, thanks.

Of course. It was the same with Elizabeth Banks' Charlie's Angels.

However...

When this happened, the people it wasn't made for were blamed. :screwy:

It's unlikely the targeted audience for this film will generate the numbers Disney feels its entitled to unless each one watches several times.

I'm guessing there's no mirror, mirror on the wall, because

Apparently there is, but the meaning of the word fairer in rhe context of the scene only refers to who is the kinder, more just leader.  Now the original could be read as more beautiful and well as the more moral character.  This one will only be the moral qualities with regards ro leadership.

Of course that change creates a story problem.  If the evil queen is trying to be a fair leader (granted an evil person's views of fair can be twisted), it would be she is striving to be a better person.

Yeah, this evil queen is not envious of Snow’s looks, that’s for sure. I’m guessing it will be a power struggle over who rules the land. The evil queen is oppressing the citizens and Snow will come and save the day becoming the new queen!  This movie is not made for us (except the enlightened ones who think they are someone they are not). Still…they could have did better on how they promote it.
