My daughter just went savage on Arthur Suydam 3 3

Okay, so when my daughter was young she would get quick sketches from various artists in a smaller sized sketchbook. Some artists would charge her, others wouldn't. She has some significant names in her book including from artists that I don't even have sketches from. She's probably partially the reason Frank Cho started doing sketches again at cons because he had taken a long hiatus from doing them in the early 2000's and she happens to have a Frank Cho sketch. It wasn't but a few months after that he started doing them again. 

Tonight she sent a message to Arthur on his Instagram and I couldn't help but 

For frame of reference, she's 25 now.

Please ask your daughter to list this on eBay and see if she can get more then the $20 she paid for it.

Its the Super Bowl tomorrow—what’s the over under on if Joe Burrow will be passing for more yards vs. today’s FMV of that stamped “sketch?”

As someone who tried to compliment him for hitting the goldmine with the Marvel Zombie craze (at a convention about 10 years ago), he really, really thinks highly of himself.

An experience like this is practically a rite of passage in Artists Alley. We all have stories about unhappy interactions with certain artists. At the same time, hopefully your daughter learned that when an artist says they don't want to sketch, to take them at their word and move on.

But he said he would only do it for money. And that thing is inexcusable for a professional to give to a kid.

yes, it is the 13 year old who should be the focus and learning a lesson here.

Hi, I am the daughter in question here. I was actually only 11 when I had this interaction with Arthur. I only got told “no” on one occasion. It was Michael Golden at the Dallas Comic Convention. I will never forget that interaction either. Although a few years later I did get Michael Golden to do a Bugs Bunny sketch for my younger brother. 

I was always very respectful to artists, and I was actually quite shy as a kid. My dad having me go get sketches on my own was what got me over that social anxiety. There was kind of a running joke that a lot of the artists went along with in my sketchbook about me needing to talk more. I’m glad my dad gave me the opportunity and freedom to meet all the amazing artists I did.

I have a few posted on my old Comic Art Fans account. Most notably the Frank Cho mentioned earlier. After he drew the cigar he looked at me and said, “oops, maybe I shouldn’t have drawn that.” This was at the same convention I got the Arthur “sketch” from.

you'd think a professional artist would be embarrassed to put their 'official seal' on that.  and speaking of Michael Golden, be more careful to proofread insulting commissions (i.e. "patience is a virue")...

I think it's a reference to a commission that was late where the artist wrote "patience is a virtue" incorrectly

Golden was out of the scene for years and then came out on the convention circuit and he and his rep accepted money in advance for commissions. Then silence. A group of 4 or so decided they had enough and sent a legalish letter saying get'er done (even though this was kind of saying skip us to the top of the list, I know as I was on the list but not one who was involved in the letter). So he got'em done, and sent some class-less lettering on them as well. Professionally drawn but insulting the buyers. The only one shared publicly (as far as I know) has a misspelling and said "Patience is a virue Mr. Turnbull" (Mr Turnbull seems an awesome guy, although we have never met.) it also appears to be Doc thumbing his nose or blowing a raspberry to Mr Turnbull.
