Red border around the word "Marvel" is the simplest giveaway.   Also, the bar code is the more modern style, moved to the left against the edge of the book.

That was my sarcastic way of saying buy the 2021 book, not the label that claims it was published in 2011.

Yea, the image was from an IG post of theirs from yesterday.   It was pointed out and they thanked everyone and said they would contact the involved parties and weren't going to let the buyer take the hit.

Just my 2 cents on this one since it is something I have railed about before. 

In order for this mistake to happen the person submitting it must have put in incorrect info in the submission form. He is clearly a scam artist so no surprise that after his little trick worked he is bouncing from one forum to another trying to sell off these books.

I am sure CGC is taking a lot of heat for missing this one, but honestly a lot of the vitriol should be directed to the person trying to scam people with this. Also, some of the blame has to go to Marvel for publishing facsimile editions that are almost identical to the original. The variants are way too small to miss an even experienced people can be duped by them if they are not super careful.

I'd like to think CGC checks the info written on the invoice and isn't just labeling books according to submitters.

Otherwise,  every book I have graded would be a Detective 27.

Scammers can be blamed for attempting to deceive CGC, but only CGC is to blame for what's on a label.

Exactly.  How is it so hard to put the word REPRINT on the cover?  

I don't feel like it should be necessary to have to pull up a google image of a book to make sure it is the real deal vs. reprint.

Valid point. However, as an alleged authority on authentication, CGC needs to correct the scammer when they have the opportunity and in this case they failed to protect the consumer (which is their entire business model).

While I agree the mistake/intentional issue might have originated with the person submitting the book, this is literally what we pay CGC for. Its like submitting a book with obvious resto and CGC missing it. Once CGC slabs the book it is 100% on them. And let's face it, this isn't some elaborate scheme. Its a darn reprint.

To me, it just means that people that don’t collect for the hobby of it don’t know what they are looking at.  It’s all about turning profits.  I think I’ve b1tched about this before.

What about the submitter?  I’m willing to bet there’s an option for a facsimile variant when submitting books like this.

To be perfectly honest I don't care at all about the submitter. I care about CGC's process and how people are supposed to have confidence in what they do. If they can't figure out they are grading a reprint and not an original comic no matter what the form says that is extremely concerning.
