Interesting. What about detached covers? Sometimes it's not possible to tell when slabbed.

Yes, but other interior defects (siamese pages, tape, coupons/puzzles/etc filled out) will not be.

Additionally, while a detached cover typically can be identified in the CGC case, some times it's not so easy (same with spine splits -- if they are "clean" and now sandwiched between layers of plastic, hard to see).

When does this change go into effect? Will books currently at CGC no longer receive graders notes? 

I have 13 books with them now.  Between pressing and grading they've been gone since February 2021 (complaint for a different thread)... I just want to know what to expect in case I ever get my comics back.

Because CGC members now have free access to Grader Notes, not as many defects will be listed on the certification label.

CGC is discontinuing the use of the term “incomplete” on its label, as well as the terms “affects story” and “does not affect story” when parts are missing from the interior of a comic.

Oftentimes, some of these defects are slightly less severe but do not go on the label. Such as a spine that is 98% split. If a spine was still attached in one area, no matter how small it was, we did not put it on the label. 

 

If a book does not appear to match the grade it has been given, that would give reason to check the grader notes. We are working on implementing a QR code on the label to ease the process of note checking.

Just wanted to gather all the things that would not be clearly visible while in the slab that either are not now noted, or will no longer be. (The highlighted shows that the "fully split spine" isn't as much a change as I thought. Wow, 98% split and no notation? Who knew?)

I don't buy many graded books, but I've always assumed that anything that wasn't visible would be listed on the label. I guess they should remove this line from their "About" page:

"With a consistent standard, impartial grading, expert restoration detection and a tamper-evident protective holder, you know what to expect from a CGC-graded book."

Every label needs to say “See Grader’s Notes” otherwise this looks like intentional and willful deception. 
This looks like bad faith.

I would like CGC to explain how ANYONE other than someone intending to scam and defraud a buyer benefits from CGC no longer writing the single but extremely important word “incomplete” on the label. Who benefits from removing the notation “centerfold detached”?

It takes no additional work to have “incomplete” on the label. 
Removing the word “incomplete” from the label serves ONE purpose—it makes an incomplete book appear like a complete book. 
Removing “detached centerfold” from the label makes a detached book appear to be a structurally sound book.  
It puts uneducated buyers, and even sophisticated buyers who may not be aware of the policy change, at higher risk of being defrauded. 

This is not a new goofy custom label or a font change; this is a direct assault on the primary purpose of a CGC book, transparency to facilitate transactions. 
As a buyer I can no longer rely on the CGC label. CGC is no longer in the authentication and grading business. It is only in the expensive plastic case business. 
A truly shockingly stupid decision.
