Let's be ultra generous and say that there was overhead (Crain's fees, CGC fees, Marvel printing and acetate printing) SWAG of $25,000.  That's still a very nice afternoon of "work"

Agreed Crain did in fact make it but it was not manufactured by Penguin and wasn’t approved by Marvel. That’s seems to be the issue. If shops can go ahead and alter covers by themselves where do you draw the line. You can’t uphold a standard of “signatures need to be witnessed” but then let things like this happen because you are sending mixed signals.

And they already paid for the copies back in 2021 when they originally released it. So those costs were already sunk last year!
