So... 14 out of 30 submissions (47%) came back 9.9 or 10

14 out of 30 books were modified to add an additional cover and two extra staples... and there were NO internal pages damaged during the process - in fact, the insides of these books were originally absolutely pristine, including the original covers, all edges, corners, staples and spine were in perfect alignment.

What are the odds!??

I got 2 9.9s on all star batman 1. Out of the diamond box and I myself prescreened for the best and sent in about 5. I got 2 9.9s.

I have only subbed maybe 200 books total.

I've submitted about 800 books. I've never gotten a 10, and have gotten 7 9.9s. 4 of the 7 were in one shipment last year, all Bad Idea books, and the production quality on those is high. (One of the books that I got 3 9.9s on has almost as many 9.9s and 10s as 9.8s.) 2 of the other 7 were for Valiant prestige format books; again, high production quality. The last was for the Mortal Kombat Hologram cover, so that's a little thicker as well.

Ok, so I have to ask when you received these 9.9+ grades. I’ve only had around 500 books graded and my opinions are shaped by my experiences and the experiences of others I know. Based on that I’m of the opinion that the vast majority of 9.9 and 10 grades were given out many many years ago.
Honest to God I just picked a title out of thin air that I know has been submitted heavily to look at the numbers at CGCdata.com. Wolverine #1 from 1982. The book has had ~ 22,000 subs since CGC was founded. It has 27 9.9s and 3 10s. However of the 22,000 subs ~8,000 of them have come between Jan 2018 and now. Of those 8,000 copies there have been zero 9.9s and zero 10s. now obviously this is just a book picked randomly but I’d be willing to bet that this isn’t an outlier.

I've submitted over 500 books over the past 10 years.
Only one has ever come back a 9.9
This was in 2012/13 or so.
It was a wall book purchased from a LCS.
I would swear that in the years since I have submitted comics that 'look' / 'feel' / 'lay' the same as that book and should have graded as a 9.9

I never knew there was a hologram cover for that book. That's a beauty!

@CGC Mike

Will CGC still be responding to  / further clarifying  their current position given marvel has gone out of their way to state this practice is not accepted with their books?      They have all but confirmed the acetate is an unapproved post production modification that they don't want to be associated with. Surely 10.0   blue label is sending wrong message to your customers,  now and in the future.

"all cover artwork must be created and approved by Marvel. Once submitted and accepted, no retailer has permission to use these comics or art to create new products, edit, or change the published comic in any way. This of course pertains to all past and current comics"

It's a pretty cover, but not so pretty that I wasn't willing to sell it when the movie came out last year and renewed interest in the comics for a short while.

Damn. Mind me asking what you got for it? Prices for those books are so difficult to baseline.

I think it ended up selling for somewhere between 700-800. Considering how hot things were in general then, I was expecting 4 figures. But I'm not complaining considering it cost me probably $20 or less plus grading fees.

Cheers for the response, and nice price! I was guessing about $900.
