Dealer with raws who can actually grade
1 1

37 posts in this topic

I recently picked up a raw Spawn 1 listed as a 9.8 as well as a raw Marvel Secret Wars 1 listed as a 9.8 from this dealer https://ebay.com/usr/harleypool

I sent in both books along with 18 others to CGC not expecting them to come back as the dealer graded since Ebay is known for having horrible dealers over hyping their books.  However, to my surprise, both came back from CGC as 9.8's.

There is still some hope on Ebay, not much, but some.  Forget facebook and instragram, I got burnt there way to many time with scammers.

These chat boards have been a Godsend for me in learning the ins and outs of this hobby.

Anyone else have great experiences purchasing raw books on Ebay?

I'm sure he is a good dealer, but it worries me when someone states that the raw comic they are selling is a 9.9

There is some chance they have that 1 in a million copy.  But then, wouldn't you send it in yourself?  I'd like to get a 9.9 back, but I don't think it will happen in my lifetime.

If I aim my left ear to the ground, my head is now oriented to where I can see a small % of the comic for sale in the Store listing:

And most are like that.  Who does this???  We need a poll.  The choices are: stupid, or lazy.

I'd vote 'deceptive'.

I've had pretty good success through Ebay.Got a run of 1602 and they all came back 9.8 except #1 and it was a 9.2

Got 2 Emma Frost and both came back 9.8( seems like they were only a buck each and I got them to fill a box)

Bought a boxed set of GA books and got 2 9.6 and a 9.8

Tightest mail order graders? Try Jim Payette, My Comic Shop, Bedrock City @MrBedrock and Bob Storms @blazingbob. Some of the best in the hobby…

If you are looking at the antithesis of these graders, I suggest you look into Metropolis Comics. I have purchased raw comics from them, and, when returned from CGC, those issues are always a minimum of two grades lower (eg, MC grades book at 5.0, comes back from CGC as a 4.0, if lucky). Needless to say, I don't buy raw books from them anymore.

There's no way this copy of MSHSW #1 is a 9.8 as listed. I would say you just got lucky instead of this seller being an accurate grader.

This whole thread smells very shilly to me.

Yeah, that's opening yourself up to a refund.  I don't list much, but I always post tons of pics and let the pictures speak.  The buyer can make their own determination.
