#70 - Super Skrull, Ed McGuennis

070_SuperSkrull_EdMcGuennis.jpg

I love Ed's work. Good job on all of them.

I waited in Ed's line for 45 minutes on Friday (while he was sketching for people). When I got up there he said, "I've got a lot of other sketches to do. Check back with me later." So I went back again on Friday, twice on Saturday (when he was not doing anything else) and twice on Sunday. Finally, stopped by to talk to Cully when Phil Noto was just finsihing up Galactus. So I stopped him as he walked away and said, "Still too busy to knock one of these out?" He said, "I guess I've blown you off as long as I can."

When he selected Super Skrull I was a bit worried. There's just too much going on with that character to get it all in a 2.5" square. Well, obviously I was concened about nothing. He really nailed it.

I watched the mcguiness and the stelfreeze being done, excellent work. I was intrigued when ed picked the super skrull and you sent your friend off to find the enlarged copies that were at Noto's booth while appearing to try and talk him out of that one.

What was up with suydam anyway, he was a total tool all weekend. i got in his line to get a book signed, had to wait 20 minutes while he signed 100 posters for some noob in line that admitted he was going to sell them all and then i get informed that i have to buy a sketchbook or print to get my comic signed but that the posters were free. I said "what" and scowled at the lady running the table as i walked off. No more suydam zombie covers for me nor will i support him in anyway.

Yeah, Suydam was not one of the greates people to talk to. I think most of the bad things I heard were a result of his wife being there. When he did that Golem for me it was almost like he was doing me some tremendous favor. Then when he handed it back to me (after 30 seconds) his wife piped up and said, "We're asking $20 for head sketches." I looked at the sketch then at Arthur. He rolled his eyes and immediately looked away like he was embarassed. So I paid the lady and split.

Let's just say what I'd give that biotch wouldn't be in the form of a $20 bill.

I could seriously sketch a better Golem drunk, using my left foot.

What an incredible concept and fun project.

Very cool.....

Congrats and good luck.

We should start a board members 1-100 MVS collection as well. Lots of non artists would make for an interesting, if not humorous/ugly set.

This on the other hand is quite wonderful.

We could send a board around the country like Cap and Mandi.

FANTASTIC project. So damn cool, I WISH I had thought of it myself...and almost cool enough to rip off, if I wouldn't feel bad about it later. Too bad they aren't individual cards, though...only from the standpoint that if Suydam had done that to me, I would have dropped it on the table and walked away. They do look much better in sheets, though.

Yeah, that's the risk you take when doing a jam piece. If one guy makes a bad drawing it can ruin the whole thing. Luckily Golem is probably the worst character so it doesn't bother me too much that it's a sucky sketch.

Great idea and some very nice sketches done!

I'm curious, though, Suydam's wife notwithstanding, do you end up having to pay for many of these or are these generally freebie sketches?

Generally they are free of a nominal amount. Here's what I paid (as I remember it)...

Andy Lee - $10

Cliff Chaing - $10

Benard Chaing, John Paul Leon, Trevor Goring - bought their $20 sketch book

Rick Remender - $10

Tom Rainey - $20 to ACTOR

Mike Avon Oeming - $10

George Tuska - $5

Nick Cardy - $5

Bill Sienkiewicz - 8 shots of decaf espresso, double cupped... $6.50
