What Are Your Little Pleasures of Comic Collecting... 2 2

What are the little pleasures or quirks of the hobby that give you joy outside of the books themselves? For me one of the things I enjoy is the cataloging aspect of the hobby. Also I get a happy feeling after I've rebagged and boarded an entire series into a new short box and see them all lined up perfectly uniform and fresh in the box.

I love to crack books out of graded containers. It gives me a thrill out of how many get their chains yanked by that.

I remember buying piles of old comics at the flea market and driving home with them on the front seat. Some really had that old paper scent that permeated the truck.

The moment when I first walk in the area where I display my slabs. Even before I turn on the lamp, I can see the light coming from the TV, reflecting on the front covers, the giant Action or Sensation logos glowing. Just staring at the books like “wow this thing survived WW2.”

I'm currently re-bagging and boarding my collection, and it's been great to see so many cool books that I haven't pulled out in years.  Every time I finish a box, it's really satisfying to see everything looking so clean and uniform.

I also just ordered some new shelves to replace the ones I'm currently using, as well as some of those fancy, newfangled plastic comic boxes to try out.  The whole idea of rearranging and reorganizing everything has me strangely excited.

Holding a comic and imagining its history.  What route has this taken to get to me?  How many others have enjoyed it before me?  How did it survive the ravages of time when so many other copies didn't?

Ordering comic books, receiving them, opening the package, holding the comic books, looking at them, grading them if raw, especially reading them if raw (of course for me since I will not crack a slab unless required for whatever reason) or I purchased a raw copy of a graded one. I love every aspect of comic books.

Walking into my bedroom and seeing everything on display and the memories that go along with that, comic books allow me to keep reliving the good parts of my childhood. 

Also...I LOVE the smell of degrading paper, we had an LCS that smelled like that, as soon as you opened the door the smell walloped you in the face.

A lot of what is already mentioned - organizing, cataloging, putting them away. I'm fortunate I have an entire room in the house dedicated to my comics, so it's always fun to go in there and put stuff away, flip through books, etc.

Waiting for the CGC grades to post when I mail in a submission to see how close I came in what I thought the grades would be.  ...If it's a economy submission your wait be long but it has improved.
