Here's an example of a slug or overprint on a 1937 Goodman pulp and the overprint on Mystic 4

PULP (goodman) Detective Short Stories #1 August 1937b.JPG

This is probably the most compelling argument against a 1st/2nd printing.  This wasn't the first or last time that it was done, yet nobody invokes 2 separate printings for the other books due to demand.

How many were Unrestored for the October copies and Unrestored for November Copies

All 3 Oct restored. Probably 50/50 on November…all 3 pedigree copies I owned were restored at the time (Allentown, Kansas City and Chicago )

Thanks so much for these precious insights!

Unrestored  October looks like the Nic Cage cgc 5.0  would be tops and just any unrestored the rarest.

Black circle is very visible so it's November.

What do you think price wise, Ben?

While we wait on Ben’s pronouncement, allow me to inject some flotsam into the mix: this exact book sold for  $52,580 back in 2018. I’m sure it would have sold higher in the January 2020 - December 2022 peak, but given the price retreat we are now enjoying, I’m going to say . . . I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO FRIGGIN IDEA

since this is one of those CC sellers asking for the extra 15% vig, it would have to hammer at $44,693 to achieve the same $52,580 sale price as back in 2018.

so there’s your floor, imo

Thanks for that. $50K for a rare Uber key like this seem cheap. I’m guessing it should hit $100K but I wouldn’t be surprised if it fell short. I wonder if this would be a target for a professional restorer at the right price point. Do the work themself and then relist it. I have no idea if this is a viable candidate to drastically improve the cover but these guys seem to be working magic these days.
