Popular Post scottde
Hey all, I’m looking for a little assistance if anyone is able to help out. I’m trying to track down additional copies of More Fun 31 in trying to see how many are really in existence. Per the Gerber guide, this book was initially noted as a Gerber 6 when published in 1989 meaning 50-200 copies in existence based on their scarcity index.Take the index with a grain of salt for any number of reasons. Since acquiring my copy I have found this to not be the case. To date there are only ten total copies on the CGC census, one copy on the CBCS census and two raw copies that I am aware of (I have just today been notified of two additional raw copies bringing my count to 15). What leads me to believe that this book may be far more scarce than the guide would have you believe is that in the past ten years only three copies total have been added to the CGC census. If there were many more available in the wild one would think based on the importance of this book (first ever published image of Superman) and based on how Action 1 has gone through the roof, that more than three copies would have been graded since 2013. If any of you knows of anyone who owns a copy or if you own a copy yourself, please make note in the comments. I’d love to hear from anyone else with a graded copy (I am personally aware of one other graded copy that I know who owns it and three of the raw copies). Thanks for everyone being so great here. Sauce Dog
One of the few books on my hunt list. I love collecting More Fun, specifically the Doctor Fate issues but this is one of the early issues I hope to find an absolute beater copy of this issue one day (ideally 0.5, even restored or incomplete is fine) - hopefully your questing will bring a few more to light I can get my grubby hands on scottde and ThothAmon 1
DanCooper
I took a look at the Heritage and ComicConnect auction archives to see what auction history the book has had. Heritage's archives looks to have three CGC copies/sales (a 3.5, 4.0 and an Apparent /restored 6.0) ComicConnect had a CGC 3.5 and the BIG enchilada of all - the Mile High 9.6 below! Interesting that the last time the book showed up in either auction in any grade was nearly a decade ago - 2013. ThothAmon

Ten years minimum since either major auction house has sold a copy and only three added to the CGC census in those ten years.
RareHighGrade
Most if not all of the More Funs from 1938 are extremely uncommon. Some of them (e.g., #35) have only half as many copies on the census as #31. Professor K, lou_fine and scottde
Iksar
First printed image of Superman makes this one tough to classify Professor K and scottde

waaaghboss
Is there a chance of a house ad in a pulp with ac1 in it? I know marvel comics 1 cover was in a pulp, and I've seen other comics like real life comics and jungle stories in pulp house ads. "Donenfeld owned a printing plant and a distribution company, Independence News. Donenfeld also published pulp magazines under a variety of company names: DM, Culture, Trojan, Speed, Arrow. Yes, Donenfeld published the spicy pulps! This included the Super-Detective title which had pulp hero Jim Anthony. Strangely, the title logo of Super-Detective matches the style of the title logo of Superman comics! But am not aware of any crossover of characters or creators between his pulps and DC Comics. He actually ran short comics in his spicy pulps, like “Sally the Sleuth.” He seems to have kept the two quite separated."

But not knowing in 1938, I stand by my decision.
