It's Friday!    Time for another installment of "mock the overgrader" (in a clever but compassionate and sensitive manner, naturally   ).  Nominations for "Most Overgraded Comic Of The Week" are welcomed!  However, please remember that:

  • We're looking for gross/glaring overgrading (6.0-ish books billed as VF/NM, 4.0/4.5-ish comics described as VF, trashed beaters listed as VG).
  • Chronic offenders are a plus (especially if that seller has been negged for overgrading by past customers).  :boo:

Now, lemme get this party started with a nomination of my own:
atomiccitycomics for his "like new, 8.5 VF+" copy of Thor #146 and/or his "VG+" copy of Superman #131(worship)  (worship)

I love that Lois Lane's face has been cut out and that he thinks this is not only VG, but that it's a nice presenting VG that gets the extra "+" on it.

I see this as a variation on the classic Howard Rogofsky position on carefully-applied tape at the spine.

"Grime, if carefully applied, is not considered a defect"

If we look at the spine on this back cover, the line of grime actually runs very, very neatly from top to bottom, and so is excusable.

It does show how much sunshine Australia gets when compared to the U.K., though.

Far too perfect to be called VF+, VF/NM, NM-, NM, NM+, or even NM/MT.  (tsk)  Nope, this Captain Atom #83 is flat-out MINT.  :whatthe:  :whatthe:  (worship)

Why settle for anything less than perfection!

They should market this as an "Extra Crispy" MINT.

In the 90s, comic perfection was referred to in the press here once as ‘So Mint it’s like looking at God’ condition.

I liked that one.

I then thought..

”As well as a Mylar, this comic comes in a completely opaque black plastic bag, as it is so mint that looking at it directly would melt your face off.”

Something like that.

Again, perhaps in our mockery we are being too critical.

Here, the shadow is evenly imprinted around the edge, producing an aesthetically-pleasing frame effect.

May I ask, when the seller says "Newsstand", is he suggesting this is how the book looked when it was purchased new off the newsstand?

Second question - "What newsstand did this book come from and was the newsstand actually located inside a dumpster?"
