Because here you are, the Head of Marketing, taking the time on a Sunday morning PST to let me know about a customer service structure that evidently can't function on weekends...except to tell customers that it doesn't function on weekends.

They’re obviously going to respond here out of their normal business hours. You made your problem public.

Hey @shortboxed, so customer service is Monday through Friday, 9-5 PST, but running interference on comic book forums is 24/7?

Color me unimpressed by Shortboxed's priorities, sir.

After a 7 year hiatus it’s comforting to see that the speed in which the world has changed ceases to exist on these boards.

This thread feels like 2011. Like a cozy blanket by the fire, bourbon in hand.

Thanks gatekeeper. Any defense for the lack of customer support, while you’re at it?

I didn't expect to receive the book by now, but I did expect the USPS to at least get their hands on it within the first 72 hours of the order.  It hasn't moved out of the seller's house. For four days now.  My 30-years of online commerce experience tells me that it never will.

30 years = 1993. I'd wager under .2% of World population even knew what the Internet was then.  The World Wide Web was not even available to the general public until April 30,1993.  By early 1994 there were still under 3000 websites. After that it exploded.

I'm very Curious to know what online businesses you were using in 1993.  My curiosity is 100% genuine, please do not take as sarcasm, early internet and WWW history is an interest of mine.

My apologies if your 30 years statement was hyperbole and it was really only 27  or 28 because in 1995 or 1996 time-frame the Internet and WWW landscape was exponentially different than 1993

My bad - I meant that I've been buying and selling for 30 years (a couple more, actually)...but you're right, the online part didn't really get going until around 2000. But even when it was all mail-order, there were certain expectations and standards of customer service and response time.

I know everyone is having a blast here, but the fact remains that Shortboxed has no customer support outside of 9-5 Mon-Fri, yet they run a 24/7 online business, one that takes in a considerable amount of money predicated on anonymous shippers following through.  It doesn't wash...especially how weak the communication structures are (using your personal email to contact them, please). Compare to E-Bay or Reverb or Poshmark or any other online service that brings sellers and buyers together.

That is my real complaint, which is getting ignored by all the yucksters here, who are just bored and posting pictures of kleenex boxes or getting vapors because someone doesn't think Shortboxed's business plan is wholly professional.

Thanks, Gambold Vintage

You are comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing a company that is set up similar to Heritage, or Comic Link to Ebay. Heritage and Comic Link do not require the books be sent to them prior to selling in their marketplace, as previously stated they contact the seller to confirm they still have the book and then proceed to receiving the book and then ship to the customer. It takes MUCH longer than Ebay, Instagram, Etc due to the amount of shipping and receiving, And you don't need to like that business model, learning this you may prefer to not use these style of sites, although the auctions do require the books be in hand before the auction begins. Depending on what the sellers shipping policy is on Ebay, they may NOT respond in 24 hrs or even 48 if their shipping states they ship within 72 hrs or even 5 business days.

Additionally NO business is required to have 24hr support, or work any more hours than they choose. Shortbox has been a member here for years, so as a member of the forum and community I am sure they come here to check PMs between friends and read posts. This is still a hobby that many sellers still enjoy, so interacting with friends and peers in non-business hours isn't irrational or "running interference". This has become a major issue in todays world, due to the internet and online selling, people have lost respect for people. The belief that because you run a business and are home, so you should still be responding to emails. Or that because you have a work email and should be responding outside of business hours is unrealistic. People are allowed to use their free time however they please and to expect people to work outside of operating hours because the customer wants an answer now, is BS and straight up disrespectful by assuming your time is more important than theirs by not respecting their time.

And dont take this as ragging on you, or piling on. I genuinely think that maybe you just aren't familiar with the business model of companies like Comiclink, Shortbox, etc.  So hopefully this clears a few things up, I don't know the people who work at shortbox but I am confident they are probably fairly small and don't have the resources yet to handle a few hundred emails a day between sales and consignors.
