Have to disagree with this. Take a step back and look again. Miller. Elektra. Vintage. An absolutely fantastic image. If drawn on one board it would have gone for 2x the result. Probably much more.

Actually if this were drawn on one board the consignor probably would not have selected it to consign. It would take a 7-figure offer to pry it away.

Just my 2c

Nah, it's a nice cover, but I don't think the consignor goes from being OK with having only a $90K (hammer) reserve on it in this auction to needing 10x that much to sell it if it were on one board. The reality is that the other DD/Elektra covers - #168, 174, 175, 176 and 181 - are all way above this one in desirability and a lot of people would probably take the #179 (Elektra + DD mask only) over it as well.

If anything, the fact that the cover has increased over 5-fold in the past 13 years (8-fold from where it petered out in CLink's open auction) to $252K more likely means that no one really cares about it being on two boards anymore (or at least there are enough high rollers who don't). I know that the two-boards fact held me back in 2011; if I was going for the cover now, it definitely wouldn't. 2c

The consensus from those I've spoken to is that it met or outperformed expectations. Don't think I've heard anyone before now suggest that it could/should have gone even higher. That said, I get your love for the cover as I have very fond memories of it as well. But I think the market got it right this time.

A few items I was watching but no big bargains IMHO.

This one surprised me a bit.  Higher than I expected by 2x

Strong price for a panel page but a nice one

Higher than I expected.  Dr Doom effect?

Right in line where I thought it would go

Two more recent Buscema Avengers splashes with Palmer inks.  the image in the 1st one is a bit confusing but 2nd one is very nice.  Definitely makes me feel good about the two splashes in my collect at a 20x discount.

The Red Monika Battle Chaser's piece was listed for a whole lot more on the dealers website. I think the seller took a big hit. Considering the hammer prices for Battle Chaser's pieces at the most recent ComicLink auction, it seems there's not a whole ton love for them.

The Olivier Coipel Black Cat #2 Variant Cover that went for $6300 w/BP. I believe that was sold on another dealer's website for around $15k. Yeah, that one hurt!

I'm happy to say one of the pages you mentioned here I won! I was expecting the worse, but it ended up little lower than I thought going in.

The JLA 22 cover price wasn't too far from expectation, seeing what art from JLA 21, 22, and 29 have been going for the last few years- but that said, it did seem a bit low (to me at least) when comparing it to all the pieces in this auction that went for more. That's pretty key SA DC.

Makes me wonder, when looking at silver age Marvel (and then separately looking at silver age DC), what % of buyers are in love with the actual material (and aging out?), versus people looking for historically significant pieces, versus people who feel there is plenty of room for growth.

Or, it could just be chalked up to the DC discount, lol.

Thought there were a few bargains in Sunday's session, including my Darwyn Cooke Green Lantern variant cover. I'm obviously biased, but I think whoever won that got a great deal.

Also thought the Irv Novick splash page from Batman #334 featuring Ra's and Talia al Gaul would have gone close to $10K, but fell short. That's a great page from a classic storyline.

I think the Curt Swan/Tex Blaisdell Flash Hostess page was a really good buy. I liked it way more than the Joker page, which sold for $3600 more.

Pencil only, no backgrounds, etc?   Seems pretty decent to me.    An aggressive prior ask doesn't mean the auction price wasn't solid IMO.
