Thanks. I got this round of changes made to the GCD entries. We'll see how long it takes them to put them in.

I also found a Rudyard Kipling story they reprinted and I forgot that I found some pulp reprints that weren't from Weird Tales.

I'm hoping the 2nd part of that article has more on the Eerie artists, but probably not. There were a few (other than the Atlas guys) who went on to become somewhat well known (Domingo Mandrafina, Torre Repiso, Felix Saborido - and I'm guessing Cerchiara is Mariana Cerchiara) and I would think the "unknown" ones wouldn't be too difficult to identify if you contacted the above.

One other thing I found that may be of interest is a small number of art credits for Ajax stories. Ajax used Iger Shop art and apparently they used a uniform style and even experts have trouble distinguishing them so I don't know how accurate these are.

They mostly came from New England Comics' "Buried Terror." (since these were straight reprints, the artist for the Eerie pubs version was the same, except that they may have had another artist add a little gore.)

I'm unsure of the last one. From a reprinted splash page I saw, I know it was a reprint of a story called The Evil Eye, but I don't know the source of the story. I know that there was a story by that title in Witches Tale #2 but there were also others (one appeared in Youthful's Chilling Tales #17). I haven't seen either but suspect it is the Harvey version.

 

Another interesting fact is that the story Vampire Flies (different story from The Vampire Flies) in Witches Tales v3n1 is signed by "Woromay". I can only assume that this is Atlas artist Larry Woromay. His style looks like one of the two major unsigned Eerie Pubs artists. I don't think it's him but I haven't looked yet to compare them.

So far, I have mostl just recorded artists who signed their work and a few others (including some of the pre-code credits for the stuff they reprinted with original art). I have come across 38 different artists (not counting the ones who signed their stuff but whose name I couldn't even begin to decipher). One odd thing I've noticed while compiling this list is the Eerie seemed to favor certain titles for certain publishers. Take Ace, for instance. I've found 32 reworks of Ace stories so far and all 32 of them were from Web of Mystery. None from Beyond, Baffling Mysteries, or Hand of Fate (4 were originally published in Beyond #1, but that issue was later reprinted in Web of Mystery).

 

Same things with Story (all from Mysterious Adventures, none from Dark Mysteries) and Fawcett (all from Beware! Terror Tales).

Maybe I just haven't found enough of them yet, but it seems odd.

Regarding the Midnight stories. Ajax published a handful of post-code horror comics in the late 1950s (Midnight, Dark Shadows, and Strange). Most, if not all, the stories in these comics were watered down, code-approved reworks of pre-code Ajax stories. Sometimes they only made a few changes (i.e. Death Laughs Last). Other times they eviscerated the story (i.e. The Hollow Horror).

 

When Eerie Pubs reprinted these, they often used the post-code version instead of the pre-code version so I may have had some of these erroneously attributed in earier posts (i.e. The Last Laugh).

Listed below is a privately owned collection that has been well maintained with bags, backing boards and sturdy collector's boxes throughout the years. Most of these magazines have never actually been read. As I was always a stickler for condition, I was constantly replacing issues with higher grade copies resulting in an impressive collection. Some of the hard to find titles are in superior condition.
