Damn!! Theres a 9.9 ASM 19 ?!? :o

According to gpa, it went for 29k in February, 2009. I actually thought it would have been a little higher but that must be an INSANE book!

Would anyone happen to have a scan of that puppy? :wishluck:

I've been trying to decide which books to grab next for my collection, so I took a look at the census. May be common knowledge for most, but found the following interesting about graded copies of the first fifty issues of the ASM run.

Based on the above, I think I'm going to target #11 ( ) and #4.

#11 is a bee-otch in grade! :frustrated:

I actually kick myself to this day for selling my 9.0 PLOD copy... doh!:tonofbricks::censored:

#11 was the last book I needed when I was trying to complete my ASM run in 9.4 or better. After I bought a copy a 9.4 copy, I re-subbed my 9.2 and that book came a back a 9.4 too. There are worse problems to have, I know.

I've been trying to decide which books to grab next for my collection, so I took a look at the census. May be common knowledge for most, but found the following interesting about graded copies of the first fifty issues of the ASM run.

Issues with the most copies graded…

1. #1 with 1587

2. #14 with 1480

3. #50 with 1419

4. #40 with 1148

5. #39 with 968

6. #19 with 921

Issues with the fewest copies that are VF/NM or better…

1. #11 with 31

2. #1 with 33

3. #2 with 40

4. #4 with 48

5. #3 with 61

6. #5 with 62

7. #7 with 64

8. #12 with 75

9. #28 with 75

10. #6 with 80

Issues with 9.9 graded copies (there are no 10's)...

1. #19 with 1

Issues with the most 9.8 graded copies…

1. #33 with 25

2. #47 with 11

3. #45 with 10

4. #30 with 7

5. #19 with 6

6. #43 with 6

7. #49 with 6

8. #8 with 5

9. #17 with 5

10. #29 with 5

11. #34 with 5

12. #50 with 5

Issues without a 9.8 graded copy...

1. #14 with 21 in 9.6

2. #7 with 9 in 9.6

3. #9 with 9 in 9.6

4. #28 with 6 in 9.6

5. #11 with 5 in 9.6

6. #4 with 3 in 9.6

Issues with the fewest NM or better copies...

1. #4 with 9 in 9.4 or better

2. #2 with 11 in 9.4 or better

3. #1 with 12 in 9.4 or better

4. #11 with 13 in 9.4 or better

5. #23 with 13 in 9.4 or better

6. #3 with 14 in 9.4 or better

7. #28 with 17 in 9.4 or better

Based on the above, I think I'm going to target #11 ( ) and #4.

That is a great list Frank, thanks for that. I've figured those out by the market and what has come up.

I went after the #11 as one of several I had never had luck finding many of. Same for #4, and of course the other obvious issues.

That is a great list.

I had an issue of Comic Book Marketplace from the 1990s with an article about the toughest ASMs to find in high grade. Hopefully, I still have it somewhere. I'll try to find it and see how the list compares. If memory serves, I think they were right about many of the tough issues.

Damn!! Theres a 9.9 ASM 19 ?!? :o

According to gpa, it went for 29k in February, 2009. I actually thought it would have been a little higher but that must be an INSANE book!

Would anyone happen to have a scan of that puppy? :wishluck:

IIRC, the book was offered more than once, maybe twice, maybe three time, but in any case fetched a lower price on subsequent sales.

Again, my memory may be off, but I seem to recall the book fetching more prior to Feb 2009.

Maybe it's the scan, but I've seen lower graded copies with better color "pop" and less cover transparency. But again, hard to judge without having the book in hand.

Wow, that article was nearly dead-on. Very impressive.

Here's that article from the June 1995 Comic Book Marketplace. Their hard-to-find grade is VF or better, but the list is still pretty similar.

Ghost Town, what issue # is this?

#24.

Amazing that it's still close to this, given it was reported 17 years ago. Thanks for sharing.

Yes very similar to today's data...interesting. The thing that jumps out at me is the lower demand for issue 39...that has really risen in desireability over the years...and rightfully so.

Here's my Census compilation I posted awhile back...not updated since January of this year...toughest books in rank in 9.0 or better...

It's the scan--translucency appears in scans dozens of times more often than with a book in hand. I'm not sure I've ever even seen the translucent effect on a book in person while it's closed or in a slab.
