  1. Newsstands are sprinkled around in high grade. Even commons can typically bring 100-150% of direct copies in 9.8.
  2. Wasn’t all that long ago spidy 238 9.8’s were $500.00 regardless of newsstand or not. Spidy 300 9.8’s were well below $1000.00, I guess the tide has risen. I sold a lot of 9.8 copies of both, like 20-30 copies before this run up. That tide could still be retreating.
  3. It looks like the lower staple was removed and reinserted to perhaps help hold a detached centerfold in. I’ve yet to see cgc note removing and reinserting a staple as restoration.
  4. You would have to define small, scans work good. An eraser mark removing color or gloss will downgrade a book.
  5. I have not gotten any types of notes for finger bends as a mystery problem with my orders. I do have problems with books getting lobster clawed somehow after grading and maybe during the encapsulation process where I notice bends and other damage along the spine.
  6. The explanation on why this graded a 4.5 with the missing corners is it would have graded higher without those defects. Grading is subjective and one often gets a different grade upon straight resubmitting.
  7. I’ve sent in multiple copies of the Dave Stevens books in question without glasses and they were all blue labels.
  8. I would factor the scuff as a defect in grading, that thin black line is likely production.
  9. I doubt any rookie is grading vintage, the structure of a book from 1944 and 1974 is significant and they can be side by side on the same order. The most difficult grade to consistently pin down is mid grade 5.0-7.0 as high grades have such few problems and low grades have obvious overwhelming problems. Mid grades are in the middle of the teeter totter and can move easily with multiple submissions.
  10. When your presser returns your books to you. You should do a thorough visual inspection for bends, spine ticks, waves and other pressable defects before accepting the books back. You should then do another thorough visual inspection before sending to cgc if it’s at a later date.
  11. The graders have improved as I’ve only gotten one newsstand edition mis labeled from my submissions in the past 3-4 months. I was thinking A-I was taking over.
  12. Is this on receiving, the graders or QC to make sure it’s correctly labeled?
  13. This book came into a shop in the Midwest back in the 1980’s. The owner set it aside for his collection. He’s now aged to the point of letting some books go to move on to the next stage of life. After getting a scent that this book existed in high grade and could be for sale. I said I’m very interested in seeing it and I’m willing to close the deal. I acquired it through through a friend at a mall show, who brokered it on behalf of the owner who doesn’t travel much. It’s everything as pictured and it’s a keeper.
  14. I picked up my copy of 29 about a year ago.
  15. Cgc does not lower the return shipping to account for the lighter weight of sending slabbed books vs raw books under their fed ex accounts. As a dealer I use my own UPS account which can see some savings with less books being slabbed vs raw condition. The difference isn’t much since the Bean Counters at UPS have created enough surcharges to boost their bottom line. Most of my orders are charged dimensional weight, which is the square inches of the box instead of physical weight. Although if it’s tighter and heavier they use which is greater. I also get a gas surcharge fee, signature delivery fee, I live in a small town surcharge fee and if the box is bulging, they recalculate an additional dimensional fee because it’s slightly bigger. Oh and they also charge a holiday surcharge fee during November and December.
  16. I just checked a random book just graded and it has scans of front and back cover. 17. I question everything that spews from that video creator who specializes in selling restoration supplies.
  18. A professional should clean up the white areas without to much difficulty.
  19. Looks like some type of roller mark or ink transfer.
