  1. I keep bidding up Pictorial Romances #7 (a 7.0 last auction and an 8.0 this time) trying to upgrade but get pounded. This one went for $410:
  2. You like to dive in head first, I see. Great book and congratulations on the nice pickup.
  3. Kudos to: mschmidt parlourguy cheetah bcruze Pitboss Subliminal faster friends For their purchases and prompt payments. And to GACollectibles, who is consistently searching out card covers and giving me a heads up.
  4. If I had money owed, I would prefer it be send to me than to send the cash to the person who ripped me off and hope they feel differently this time. If a daddy doesn't pay child support, they dock the pay and get the money to the right person. They don't keep giving him the money so he can learn his lesson.
  5. Thats cool. Is he a World War 1 era hero.....as opposed to current (when the book was published) ? Early WWII looked a lot like WWI in many respects. There was incredibly rapid technological improvement once the war really started heating up. This book is cover dated March 1940, which means it was probably created in late 1939 or very early in 1940. Hitler invaded Poland in September 1939 so the cover image is probably more accurate that we would initially think. At the start of WWII, the helmets were the leftovers from WWI basically - those ones with the wide brims and in peace time with countries bleeding money, no reason to replace them. Once the war efforts picked up, new equipment and uniforms came into play. During peace time, I guess it made sense to use what they had. Pretty quickly into the war, the style changed to what we are used to seeing. A lot of 1940 and 1941 books will show those covers. For instance, this cover had to be drawn immediately after Pearl Harbor and displaying the different American soldiers.
  6. An interesting point over in General, should Hall Of Shame members have a custom title to point it out so everybody knows they're on there? Don't we have only one Hall of Shame member who might be actually trying to post on here? AlleyBat and GilbertTorres haven't been heard from since they took off with the loot and ComicSupply would get their business trashed if they pop back up. CapFreak will have a hard time on these boards and will be constantly having to explain for quite a long time. I don't think any other labels will be necessary. He essentially has a scarlet letter on him already.
  7. Evil Empire... I am gonna do a hell of a writeup on the "survey" I got asked to do after the dispute closed. Are they keeping their 30cents+3% fee for crooked transactions like some kind of money launderer?
  8. kryptonitecomics posted this one a while back and I admired it. Luckily for me, when he decided to let it go, he remembered our conversation and offered me the book It arrived today. It's the Crowley copy.
  9. With those headlights on, you'd think he would have been able to see her.
  10. Kudos to Peter Palmer and bghkoyama for safe and fast shipping, along with providing some helpful information.
  11. In a series with great covers, this is one of my favorites. Nice pickup.
  12. Send the $2,000 and get removed from the list?
  13. Kudos to erehwon for delivering his phalic Rifleman #10.
  14. Great books. Your ability to add stunning books is amazing.
  15. I really think CGC needs to enforce an age limit before selling, like in the TOS or something, and if some kid starts selling, they will then be banned. Too many of these comic-addicted kid nerds running around cashing checks that their books can't cover. But these kids don't make a secret of it. People on the boards for any length of time knew Gilberttorres and CapFreak were minors - and had even seen them make many transactions, some of those transactions were pretty significant. CGC is free, so all that an age limit would require is for them to put a different age down when creating an account. Let the kids join in all aspects of the hobby - nearly all of us bought or sold books when we were kids. If they make you uncomfortable to deal with, avoid them.
  16. Year One, eh? Must be Jesus himself with the Nazi Knockout punch... No, Jesus was too young. This is what the fourth wiseman was bringing, but apparently he decided to keep it for himself and didn't show up at the manger.
  17. Great books. I've never seen a young Henny Youngman before. I thought he was born old.
  18. Stumbled across this one and thought it was a pretty cool book. Not in the greatest shape, but fun stuff.
  19. Very cool Capt. Science, but you wouldn't think the girl would look so surprised to be tied up by issue 7.
  20. Scanning in a few pulps I picked up and found this ad on the inside back cover for "The Outlaw." Before he we nuts, Howard Hughes knew how to promote the heck out of a movie. Makes me want to watch it all over again. Ad from August 1946 Star Western:
  21. Seems like it but at least you have a book that looks better than his. I have NONE! BZ's copy - Woot, I can now honestly say I have one book that's better than BZ! My collecting days are over, going to end on a high note. That's the copy BZ keeps in the magazine rack next to the toilet for reading material. He hasn't gotten around to scanning the keeper yet.
  22. Ultracool record. Go ahead and try and break it. I wanna see how tough it really is!
