Ok, now after you wait for the coins to get shipped to you, possibly held by customs if purchased outside of Australia, would you have to fly to the US to purchase each book since the availability in your region may be nonexistent? How many different sellers would you have to make purchases from if the coins can only be obtained individually? Would you also have to purchase vintage Australian currency to facilitate each trip before going to the past? Round trip tickets for flights/ships? Getting a passport? My point being there are just too many factors to take into consideration with a time travel plot that are overlooked by “writers” that are pretty important imo.

And here I was thinking that building a functioning time machine was the main implausibility, rather than dealing with the logistics of eBay purchases. :eyeroll:

On top of the “altering history” plot hole, something that grinds my gears about time travel is how are people paying for the objects they’re purchasing from the past if the currency they travel with is from modern times? 10 cents wasn’t really a pittance 80 years ago so I find it hard to believe a merchant didn’t inspect a coin/coins enough to notice the difference in size and weight when they’ve been handling it on a regular basis, it being the most common form of payment for the time, something I think is an important aspect that “writers” never take into consideration

I don't see the problem. A quick ebay search tells me I can get period coins for a few bucks.

I remember some fascinating scenes about 78 rpm record collecting from the Robert Crumb documentary as well. I think that's when it first piqued my interest.

Hey, this is the internet, you aren't allowed to spell 'piqued' correctly! 'peaked' is the preferred form, but we'll also accept 'peeked' or, at a pinch, 'picked'.

And, yes, I absolutely would buy a conserved book. This cracked out 8.0 has a 'cover and centerfold reinforced at single staple' notation, and it cost me 30% of the blue label price. I'll take that any day.

This piece of work asked why an order got cancelled and I told him it was because he didn't pay within 4 days after numerous reminders. Since he was bidding on other items of mine, he responded with: "Ok, well then cancel all my bids since you want to be jerk about it."

I responded with "Done. And I’m not being a jerk, you’re violating eBay’s policy by not paying within 4 days. Also, if you needed more time to pay, you should have contacted me."

They replied with "Still a jerk"

Hmm, I agree he should have contacted you, but he might have just been angling to reduce shipping costs by paying for everything in one shipment. I've let people go beyond the 4 days for that reason. Did you think of responding along the lines of "Oh, OK, but in future please let me know if you waiting for other auctions to end"?

Setting aside the bizarre look of the ad in the first place, I'm guessing it started life as a house ad that said "MLJ All The Way / An MLJ Publication", but the UK publisher changed it to this different cryptic acronym.

Ah, that tallies, because "an FEH" is incorrect, while "an MLJ" is correct because of the vowel sound at the start of "em".

You don't need bleed through to have color touch, but I thought it was very obvious in the blue on the front cover. Back cover I would want to see in hand, but I suspect it there also.

Ah, yes, I think you're right. Well spotted.

Does the color touch affect the value of something like this, or would any coverless copy this was married to already get a purple label?

I think a married cover would get a green label. Where do you see color touch? I can't see any bleed through.
