  1. They released more inventory and it sold out asap as well. I guess the strategy is this - sell a limited amount to clear the first $100K, then release a bit more to cover the tax hit?
  2. All of the Cover A, A+B, and Unsigned A-D sets sold out within a few minutes. There were signed sets for up to 10 minutes, but they are all gone now as well.
  3. Here is an image I found online with a quick google search for Zatanna Special 1987 newsstand https://rarecomics.wordpress.com/2018/04/11/three-variants-that-surprised-me/zatanna-special-newsstand/
  4. Nice catch re: Qyburn. Was he an actual northerner, or Lannister spy left "dying" as a ruse?
  5. And this book still has a ton of time to run before the spec based on actual movie announcements hits.
  6. IMHO, Bob S has a business model that is better than a lot of other dealers - in addition to his great rep, allowing collectors to consign books on his site in addition to selling his own stock is smart. That 7.5-10% consignment fee will add up over a year, and it enables him to have additional high end books listed that draw eyes to his site without having to tie up his capital in them.
  7. The Zatanna exists as well. I have owned it in the past.
  8. That is fine if you get in at a decent point - movie fueled comic prices tend to peak 3 - 6 months prior to the film's release so you can exit with a tidy profit before the final verdict is in.
  9. Thanks for the purchases and this thread is now closed.
  10. Agreed. All you need are a couple of big collections per year and you can make a nice living off of a comic hobby/habit. As far as modern speculation goes, I was talking with the owner (he was late 20s/early 30s old) of a LCS in a large rural Alberta community at the 2015 Calgary Expo. He was walking around the show floor selling ESOV 2 regular covers at $20 apiece to other vendors, and the 1:25 variants for $60. We bought what he had left, and I asked him why he was giving us such a great deal. The reason - he had speculated on 1,000 copies (+ the variants) since he thought that a Gwen Spider-Man/Woman was a no brainer and was willing to share the wealth with other vendors. He had already made his money selling them at $40-60 for regular covers and $100 - $150 for the variants as they ran up. Then we started talking about his approach to modern speculating, and his back story was great. He was originally from the Maritimes and had moved to Alberta to work in the oilpatch. He collected comics, and started speculating on new #1s and 1st apps due to his love for the hobby and high level of disposable income. His early spec plays became huge wins (think back to New 52 #1s and the 2012/13 Image speculation bubble), allowing him to set up a comic store here in Alberta to move stock, and to purchase a couple of houses (rentals that he would retire to) and commercial properties back home from his comic spec profits. I have not seen him at shows since the downturn in the oilpatch, so I don't know whether he is still here or not, but he said at the time he was close to hitting his retirement $$$ target from comic profits so it likely worked out for him.
  11. +1 Add me to that list to, even after the manager at my LCS that had steered me right on other spec books said it would be a hit. I thought the B&W pages and weaker artwork would mean it was a non-starter.
  12. Must be my old photobucket images. I thought I had cancelled that account.
  13. Maybe the early 90s Valiant/Malibu/Image bubble when you could trade last month's latest chromium or other colored cover variant straight across for a mid grade SA key?
  14. Well some think Tyrion is the third Targaryen, so he may have a claim to the throne... That would make him fair game for Dany then as well, right?
  15. It would be awesome to see Sansa and Tyrion ruling as a couple after all is said and done........
  16. One last bump before this thread closes
  17. Definitely. A long time ago, before RDJ and the first Iron Man film, it was not a fast seller. The success of the movies played a huge role in running up TOS 39 prices. I can remember a time in the early 00s when I could sell an Avengers 1 faster than TOS 39, and due to the Fox and Sony movies, AF 15/ASM 1, FF 1 and X-Men 1 were easier to sell and at higher prices. If you look at CGC 6.0 prices on GPA, it was not until the first Avengers film in 2012 that TOS 39 jumped ahead of X-Men 1, and from 2009 - 2011 it was basically on par with Avengers 1. Take away RDJ as Iron Man on the big screen and TOS 39 would not have run up like it did.
  18. You fake fleeing, and while they focus on the Unsullied ships come in from the side and fry them like they did with the white walkers. Two passes with ships bunched together like that and they are done. It is just applying a basic feigned retreat and then attacking from the side using one of the islands as cover. Euron would not have been able to react in time. Granted, Dany is not a military mind and was upset, but she could have destroyed Cersei's naval leadership in one swoop.
  19. Not surprised. When all of the A and B characters have been speculated on it is time for the spec crowd to move to the C to F levels.
  20. Don't worry, I am sure Marvel already has the Red Hobgoblin arc planned..........
  21. And they will keep on chugging this year, if not a bit further, due to the movie speculation and also the lower valuation they are starting from. I was hoping to have another year on both X-Men 1 and GSX 1 to accumulate more copies. TOS 39 will likely plateau for the near to medium term based on the result of Endgame and uncertainty re: RDJ as Tony Stark moving forward. He is not getting any younger......
  22. Looking at how the ships were aligned and the weapons being at a 45 degree angle, all she had to do was come from directly above them and they were fooked. She saw the Night King do this to their forces at Winterfell. It would also take time for them to spin the weapons around - a competent battle leader would have faked flying away only to go high, come down directly on top of the closely bunched ships, and have a nice bonfire.
  23. Yeah, that was easy pickings for her. All she had to do was go high and circle behind them once they started firing on the ships. That was lazy and rushed writing.
  24. IH 181 did pretty much the exact same thing last year. You could buy a 9.4 for $5000 - $54000 until the spring. Then it ran up over the peak convention season, plateaued in September/October, and has pulled back a bit value-wise since in some grades. This year appears to be GSX 1s turn, and other BA keys are starting to run up as well.
