  1. Coming back to point out that the prices are even more unreasonable when you look at some of the grades. 2-3 grade off in some cases.
  2. These results are silly. Some of the books going for $5-600 are available on ebay for $100 +/-
  3. Bought this years ago because it was a Salida. I just looked it up and was surprised to find it's a Peanuts book.
  4. It's almost like some people get their books graded without planning to sell them or hype them. Weird.
  5. My experience was the same. Only one book, but grade was spot on and defects/potential defects were hypermagnified.
  6. I'll share your speculation & prediction with my friends who have had to pay full price for getting their megabooks graded. I'm sure CGC will be willing to provide a refund.
  7. That's a great example of what Tim already pointed out. When that book dropped people immediately said it was overgraded, they should have gone with CGC, CBCS affected the sale price, etc.
  8. No. CGC asks you to guess the value based on your best estimation, and then has you SIGN A CONTRACT agreeing to adjusting the price if the tier changes based on the outcome of the assessment you paid for.
  9. How about we get together for a bite and I'll just show you
  10. I'll add that they will have to consider how to factor PQ in as well as pulp paper and comic paper are very different. Those ratty overhangs on the pages are often fragile.
  11. Yeah, I'm kinda thinking out loud, but I qualified by pointing out that some other auction houses are suffering. I think if anything people will send more to HA to sell to pay for promise books to skirt taxes.
  12. With HA flopping their giant hog all over the place with the Promise collection it might be an opportunity for another entity to get into the biz. Some consigners will be looking for alternatives to not have to compete with the Promise books, and some people will be looking for a place to liquidate books to pay for Promise buys. That being said, it seems like the Promise collection has just made HA even stronger as you look at what CC is offering and "meh" seems generous.
  13. I think Tim & Dwight both raise some good points here. But I think it's the wrong decision to make trimming a blue label. I understand why CGC is doing it, my assumption is that it's because it's so hard to detect, not changing the label color protects their reputation. There's going to be a lot of missed trimming, especially early on, and it would be a smear on their reputation for collectors to call them out. But that doesn't mean it's the right decision. Their justification is that "it's accepted in the collecting community", and that's just not true. It's accepted that it happens, but it definitely affects the grade, desirability, and price of a book. That's like their stupid decision a decade ago to ignore tape. The most important reason to penalize trimming, is that if they don't then everyone is going to trim these books. That can't be overlooked. Whether it's a purple label or a very harsh grading penalty, it absolutely has to be done.
  14. This is typical of high-grade Atlas. It was probably no better than this condition once it rolled off the press. Finding these in 8.0 or better is just impossible.
  15. I've always been told CGC will allow staple replacement in a blue label so long as they are vintage.
