  1. If f'(GSX1) = $70K, then f''(MS5) = $264K. I think I remember that from Calc 2. But I can't remember how to integrate.
  2. Love this book. One of my favorite post-code issues.
  3. So frustrating. Did you note it as the Rockford when you sent it in? You'd think the "experts" would recognize blatant pedigree markings.
  4. Not that I'm aware of, but I don't know what BZ owned.
  5. I'm not and my boo, although she liked you, likes me more.
  6. They're not Promises. There's an even bigger book that's going to pop up from that submission that everyone is going to wet their pants about.
  7. The overhang really makes the ultra high grade stuff almost impossible. As RM said, Yakimas & Strassers, but Yakimas are much later than a lot of the big stuff from the 30s. By and large, if you're looking for brand new looking books then you're looking for file copies. Another big difference with pulps is that who owns what isn't nearly as well known as it is in comics. Is there a HG All Story Tarzan? Is there a HG Shadow 1? It's a completely different field than comics. If CGC does start certifying them it will be interesting to see if the "top census" effect holds. If your highest graded is a 6.0 or 7.0, do the multiples and bidding wars still happen?
  8. I think this highlights the main pro and con of pulps. They're much harder to find, and comic collectors are impatient. On the other hand, when they do turn up after years of looking you could see explosive prices due to demand. But if people find other squirrels to chase, they could flop. HA having pulp auctions is a good thing for the market.
  9. The guide certainly has value as a reference, but not really for pricing. It lost me over a decade ago when I went a year or two without buying one and didn't miss it. Other things it did that I found turn-offs: 1) emphasizing victorian age books so much. There were even cartoon strips in there talking down to people who dared disagree that these were "comic books". 99.9% of collectors don't care about anything pre-1935. If you want to sell a product, adjust your product to your market. Why is there 40-50 pages of Beerbohm's drivel in there. That should be a blog post. There are so many more interesting and relevant topics for articles. 2) separating out promotional books. This is an arbitrary definition and makes flipping through it a PITA. Why are there now 4-5 different sections? Why not separate by GA/SA/BA/CA? Just make it completely a nuisance to flip back and forth to find anything instead of only partially a nuisance. 3) Turning the dealer market reports into an advertising section. Doug Sulipa's market report was the absolute highlight of the year. There was information in there that NOBODY else even bothered to collect, yet he made it so interesting to read. There were other dealers who tried to submit similar reports, but they were turned down in favor of Metropolis hyping their inventory and auctions. Now read Sulipa's report. It's a shell of what it used to be. 4) refusing to listen to submissions for corrections of errors. There are threads on these boards of errors that a number of collectors have tried to correct time and time again with no response. But by and large it's just become a relic that is easily replaced by a few much better websites.
  10. I've picked from 3 OO collections of very HG books in just the last year.
  11. One day I hope to speak about something with the confidence that you speak about everything.
  12. Served time. Got out. Hired by Chuck R at Mile High comics. Fired for stealing. True story.
  13. My CC catalog didn't even make it into the house. I dropped it straight in recycling. It's going to be interesting to see 1) if people will be hesitant to consign against HA and 2) if HA sucks all the money out of the market for GA. The Berk collection had an impact, not only elsewhere, but on itself. But that was a one time deal and things recovered. This is 18 months and 5000 books.
  14. I tried to go through my stuff and pick 10 and it's impossible. I don't know how you guys do it.
  15. 1974 Mustang. I was just telling my son how bad those were yesterday.
  16. Sleazy pulp covers with comic interiors... what could be better?
  17. That's fair and perfectly reasonable. But I don't get the sense that's what is being encouraged here.
