So, Why Has AF #15 Continued to Drop In Value?
jeffreyk replied to KEY ISSUES Comics's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
If I would have bought that book , with sales tax it would have come to 38200. I still feel sales tax is hurting the market as not all states have to pay it. -

I only buy cgc books and would never have spent the amount of money I have if not for cgc. Too risky and no dispute as to grade when selling.

I recently won my first book in a heritage auction..it was approximately 1425. That is the price that reflected in gpa. However, there was 100 sales tax on the book as well as shipping and a credit card fee. By the time all was said and done, the.book was about 1570. I did consider the credit card fee in my bid. If the market has taken about a 10 percent hit on prices over the past few months with sales taxes ranging around 7 to 10 percent, the addition of sales tax is, at least in my eyes, the main factor in the softening of prices recently. Ebay still does not charge sales tax in my state. There is no fair playing field right now.

Thanks for looking. I will post more over time. What is interesting is the degree of difficulty in finding some of the books in 8.0 or higher. Of course, the early numbers were more difficult than the later ones but some early issues were harder than others. -

Hi everyone, I have been working on my Amazing Spiderman 1 to 50 run for several years now. My goal is to get all but AF 15 and Spiderman 1 in 8.0 or better. What has made it even more fun is that my son who is in college has helped me find some of the books. As of now, I have almost achieved my goal and only need asm 38, 44, and 48. Actually, I have a 38 but it is only 7.5. I plan to post some pics here from time to time and enjoy seeing all the books others have posted here. Jeff -
I recently used gpa to value my collection. I own lots of keys and many early silver age Marvels. Some books went up and some went down but no dramatic changes. Overall, my collection priced out in the ballpark of what it was a few months ago. No major drops. Even my AF 15 is doing fine per gpa. Let's see how sales do after the holiday season lull is over.

Another thing that I believe has hurt sales is sales tax. I live in Florida and have to pay 7% sales tax on any Heritage auctions I win. At this time, I do not have to pay any sales tax on Ebay sales. I am sure this will be changing at some point. Thus, I have to factor in this 7 percent on any Heritage Auctions that I bid on. Every state is different on sales tax for Ebay and other auction sites. This makes for an uneven playing field. 7 percent tax on a key book can be a lot of money that people from other states may not have to pay or pay even more depending on which state one lives in. Needless to say, in my case, it is not competitive for me to bid on Heritage, but it is on Ebay. Just my 2 cents.

This is interesting as it seems whenever there is a low sale, it is often followed by a higher sale or vice versa. I think a lot of it has to do with the time of year and also, there seems to be auctions all the time, not just Ebay and Heritage. Many times these auctions run concurrently. Between mycomicshop, pedigree, comicconect, comiclink, hakes, etc., there are numerous auctions. As for videogames affecting comic sales, maybe...i don't know. I do know that I sold my old video games to fund silverage comic book purchases! I think mostly it is the time of the year and come tax refund time in March and April and the convention season, prices will become more stable. Of course, that is just my opinion!
