  1. if you are specifically chasing 9.4 or higher then you can add the nutty high grade DC collectors out there. If this was a Marvel book, then you wouldn't have to worry until it is 9.6. Bronze marvels are much more plentiful in grade lower than 9.6 in general. It doesn't help you all that Neal Adams Batman/TEC books in general have darker colors on all the covers which make all the ticks and creases impossible to hide or blend in with the white background. I think only one bronze Neal Adams batman/tec cover has a white background.
  2. the hardest part about Avatar is the size as you probably already knewe. There isn't much room to work with. Actually, his is not Angry...he is envious of the PRECIOUS...I wanted a pic of Gollum holding an action#1 as he screamed "MY PRECIOUS" but I am not clever enough to figure out how to fit all of that in my avatar
  3. who is angry? "just a warning that if anyone here win that book, make sure you asked for double box shipment from that seller and insurance" did I say, stay away, scammer here? I advised the winner to ASK for double box shipment and insurance. I sold over 700 slabs in the past 2 years and I doubled boxed every slabs, even the $25 one. And Yes, even then, 2 of them got cracked so it is not 100% fool proof. Hell, people in this forum asked me all the time to pack their books/slabs well when they bought from me. I don't take offense to it even when the same buyer has bought a few times before and know how I packed. I shipped every slabs insured and I insured for at least $50 to account for shipping cost as well as the $11. It was my bad to not read the fine print in that auction and not realized that the insurance is not AUTOMATICALLY included in the shipping cost...thus i advised the potential winner to ASK FOR INSURANCE ALSO. "I could have make a bigger stink about it but I moved on and kept a mental note of the incident. I debated about leaving a neutral feedback but in the end, not leaving any feedbacks was my decision" YES, like you, I went thru the same thought process so I didn't leave any feedback. mental note imprinted Now I know, I won't bother trying to "help" in the future. thank god, this isn't comic general or I would have woken up to 300 posts.
  4. could it be a straight resub? sure. Only the original person that cracked the book know for sure. If it was me cracking that book out, there is no way in hell I would chance a grade bump without pressing it. Slabbing a $25k isn't cheap so tossing in a few bucks to remove any pressable flaws would be the wise thing to do. More power to you if you can do this kind of risk taking without pressing.
  5. Wow....you showed proof I contacted you about the cracked case and you refunded $11 as I stated. Where did I lied? The only mistake I made was the assumption that you would take into account that the shipping cost would be include in the refund because as I said, the slab isn't getting to cgc for free.
  6. Because I saved the scans on everything above 8.0 for the past few years and I like to know the history of every book I am going to throw big money after.
  7. CL auctioned more X-men #1 than just about any other places combined, especially for 8.0 and above, thus the reason why I started this thread 2 years ago to fill in the "gap" that GPA left out. this new 9.2 copy was the 9.0 that was on Pedigree for $24k last year. I think this copy can go for $48k. You wonder why people pressed?

  9. Ah - so glad I ask the board these things. I didn't even notice! You're right - what's with those greens?? So you're saying the was a 9.0 that got re-subbed and got a 9.2? This is very interesting - go back 3 pages and take another look at my raw copy, it has the same greens as this 9.2. but who's to say which are the "right" greens? is it the popular conception that your copy (nice btw) and this 9.2's greens are indeed "wonky"? I've gone back thru this thread and would have to say that the darker green seems to show up more BUT the Pacific Coast 9.6 with W pages is "Wonky Green" as well (pg 37 in this thread)... Thank God... I do think your copy is a 9.0 also and if you ever want to part with it, send me a PM. I promised I won't flip it on Ebay right away
  10. Ah - so glad I ask the board these things. I didn't even notice! You're right - what's with those greens?? So you're saying the was a 9.0 that got re-subbed and got a 9.2? cracked, pressed, and resub are likely here. As far as the green, darker green is the more common of the two but for sure, the lighter green is not "wonky" as I thought back when I first saw this book as a 9.0 Had I did a little more research, I would have bid higher back then. I was just a little hesitant on bidding it up at the time because I wasn't so sure about the shade of green.
  11. I regret to be the underbidder for that book when it was a 9.0 I didn't go strong on it because the green color was kind of wonky on the book and emailed a few boardies about that issue. When the census showed a disappearing of a 9.0 and a new 9.2, I had a strong hunch that it was this copy.
  12. just a warning that if anyone here win that book, make sure you asked for double box shipment from that seller and insurance. Last year, I won a slab and it was shipped not double boxed and not insured. The box arrived with a cracked slab and I contacted him right away and complained about the not so great packing job. I got a reply that was basically "mess happens and here is $11 for your trouble". Was that sufficient? If it was me, I would have refunded shipping cost as well because my slab ain't walking to CGC by itself. I could have make a bigger stink about it but I moved on and kept a mental note of the incident. I debated about leaving a neutral feedback but in the end, not leaving any feedbacks was my decision.
  13. as there other flaws to those 2 ASM? it is the all black cover right? I am guessing the color rubs were bad that showed the white below? I think if the rub took some colors, it might ding the book, if the rub added colors as in most white bc, then not much of any dings.
  14. without any hard evidences like one I saw in the bc, I can't say with certainty. I had a X-men 120 with horizontal black line across the entire front cover, likely printer roller related and the book got a 9.4 with other flaws that could have kept it any higher. Visually, it wasn't appealing but CGC didn't ding it...at least not much in that case. I am guessing that CGC might not ding the Non Player as tough as you think they will but it is nothing more than a wag.
  15. I have seen many high grade slabs from 9.2 to 9.6 with what you said on the bc. they all had other flaws that lead me to believe the grades were more related to the other flaws and not the ink transfer.
  16. OUCH....my condolence...I think many of us here have had that feeling at least once if not more than once.
  17. congrats on getting a great looking book at a good price
  18. +1 And it has begun. Replaced a BA horror book with a copy from the CLink auction. Upgraded my previous 9.2 ow/w to a 9.6 w. Will post it once the book is in hand. is it the HOM 204? I think that was the nicest looking book at the last CL auction. Perfect centering with white PQ. I didn't bid but that was the book for me if I was going for one horror book at that auction.
  19. The first 9.8 was slabbed in 2001? and the 2nd in 2004 the census has increased significantly for 8.5 and up 2 years ago, there were 6 copies at 9.4, now there are freaking 12 copies. Is it a wonder that the last two slabbed 9.4 couldn't crack $100k? no doubt some of those additional 6 copies of 9.4 are 9.2 and 9.0 books that have been pressed up. the census showed a decline of 15 copies of 9.0 to 12 copies of 9.0 over the same time the 9.4 jumped by 6 copies. the 9.2 also see a declined from 14 to 12 copies over the same time frame. as big of an X-men fan as I am having a complete run from 2 to 143, I am happy to wait for a nice copy that dances to my eyes before I own another #1
  20. Perhaps one day, a nice 9.2 or 9.0 will be affordable again
