So they're both the "first issue"? What's up CGC?
Every issue was number 1 since they didn't have numbers LOL

The 7.5 I thought would be my keeper for life has been quickly replaced:
I’m now on the hunt to replace four lower grade copies of the run to have a very solid fine or better set of the whole series.
An interesting fact I learned along the way. CGC has the first two issue totally messed up in their database. In the census they had the 1950 issue (#1) listed in the 1951 slot (#2). My #2 says first issue on the label...and Heritage kept referring to #2 in the previous sales of number 1. Maybe it’s a coincidence that both companies had them reveresed, but it makes me think that Heritage has a direct data feed to CGC’s census. Either way I think I was able to point it out to get fixed now.

I collected a complete nice run of these a few years ago. While the interiors haven’t exactly called out to me, it’s a pretty nice run, and there are some cool covers, especially later.

I know bill999 was tracking them but he hasn’t been on in awhile. I’m pretty sure he also had a 15 cent MH 22 graded 5.0. The one I’m not aware has surfaced is a Josie #1.

My wife told me while we were driving home today. At first I was shocked, then I was sad. It feels like the last giant has passed.

My wife told me earlier, very sad...feels like someone I know has passed.

There are two total on the census, the other is an 8.5. It’s one of my favorite covers in the series. Would love to see that 8.5!

Do you have that Batman 84 Ian?

These are two that I have off the top of my head. I will look for more. How is Action 206 not a smoking hot book?
Look up Batman 84, I don’t have that one but it’s awesome. Seriously, look up his covers, he’s incredible and incredibly underrated.

On a completely different topic. If Win Mortimer had been working for St. John’s instead of DC his books would be selling like Bakers. He was (IMO) the best artist DC had of the era and his women are beautiful. The difference between him and Baker is the G rated covers of DC versus M for mature that the St. John’s romance titles were.

There may not be another copy like that 8.5, those books are flat out rare in that grade. I’m gonna take a guess that the copy with the price may be the more scarcer version?

I love this kind of stuff, it’s cool to figure this stuff out. That tec is a beauty. One of my favorite time periods for DC’s.
-
Here’s another one, same font as the Superboy
-
I think this is the same month, this is the price font I am used to from this time period. The one on Ian’s ‘Tec is unusual to me
-
That an unusual price font on your 196. It’s as if they left it off at the beginning of the print run and then part way through just slapped one on. I don’t think it’s the usalu font DC was using then?

Thank you, here is the rest of the run (with apologies that these are not all GA, but the series started in the GA)
I post the back covers because something unique to these books is that there were no ads and some of the back covers are pretty cool:
