  1. @TappanZee You’ve got a visual advantage of having the book in hand, so have you looked closely at the spine for any color anomalies? Was wondering if there may have been any “touch-ups” that were done by the shop back in the day. That’s not completely unheard of.
  2. MJI’s ran in Marvels until mid ‘91 or so. Using MCS as a checklist for MJI’s is unreliable, mostly due to them listing issues that have never been found to contain the ad.
  3. Yes. An already encapsulated yellow label book can be submitted again to CGC directly, at a show, or through a facilitator for additional sigs and retain a yellow label. An older SS book can be submitted for a reholder(or pressing or regrading) and keep the yellow label. Do not take the book out of the slab or label is voided.
  4. There was a thread addressing this comic and exact defect a couple months ago. It’s apparently known among folks who collect this book/series.
  5. The submitter assigns the value. Consider it the cost of replacing the comic should the book become lost or damaged while in CGC’s care.
  6. No. ”The customer is responsible for safely and securely packaging the collectibles. Any instructions from CGC on how to package collectibles are only suggestions. The customer, in its sole discretion, must determine how to package the collectibles to prevent damage during the normal handling process. The customer assumes all risk of loss or damage to collectibles until collectibles are received and inspected by CGC”.
  7. It may or may not affect the grade depending on how prevalent this defect is across all copies (is it considered production related or not?) and the cumulative effect of any other wear or defects on the book. A book is graded on the entirety of it’s condition.
  8. Spring of 1975. Daredevil #121 was the first Marvel comic to feature the “pie thief” ads.
  9. If what you mean by “seem” is the comic’s spine, what I believe you’re seeing is what happens sometimes with stiffer or heavier paper stock in that the paper fibers crack at the point where the cover is folded over. Is this book Wolverine #6? I haven’t seen one in hand to know with any certainty, but the abrasions you see could very well be production related depending on the paper used.
  10. I would have thought the same, so I tried looking up the Statements of Ownership. While not a direct “apples to apples” comparison as far as publication month goes, JLA #177 (Apr ‘80) shows avg. sales of 128,660 the preceding twelve months and Batman #335 (May ‘81) shows an avg. of 129,699. Batman’s sales did continue to decline until 1987.
  11. It’s likely the ink transfer occurred during printing. Generally CGC will ignore minor defects that occur during the printing process.
  12. This? https://www.cgccomics.com/census/grades_standard.asp?title=Star+Wars%3a+Legacy&issue=1&publisher=Dark+Horse+Comics&year=2006&issuedate=12/06
  13. Forgive me if I’m missing something, but what makes this a “$3.99” copy?
  14. I’ll try to lure him back with a large dish of poutine.
