  1. Avenging Spider-Man #9 seems to be selling like hot cakes, if CGC makes a label designation as "Carol Danvers becomes the new Captain Marvel", we might have another legitimate Modern key.
  2. no love for the 2nd print though Give it time I've always been a fan of the second print over the first print since I love the metallic ink backgrounds Marvel used in the 90's for second and third prints.
  3. Most probably follow GPA and price a book a little higher than the previous sale. If the market shows resistance then they lower the asking price. I'm not sure what drove the $529 asking price. That was a MCS listing that had been there for a while, I believe. MCS pricing is usually out of left field compared to market prices. For example... Yep. Just consider them Mile High South. Well those crazy prices are usually due to the MCS consignors themselves setting that price.
  4. By this logic then asm344 is the key and not asm361 Good point. You could also throw in Iron Man #118/#282 and Avengers #181/Marvel Premiere #47 into that debate.
  5. Nonetheless, he's the "star" of a major TV show loosely set in the comic world, and lately that's all that's needed to push the price of a first appearance book to ridiculous levels.
  6. Coulson appears in another comic before those... not the right thread for that debate probably, but are you refering to non-616 stuff? I remember this debate from a few years back and i wasnt buying into ret-conned or non-616 claims. You might not be buying into the non-616 stuff, but the greater market at large probably will when they catch up to the fact that Coulson's first appearance ever in comics is in the non-616 "Iron Man/Incredible Hulk/Nick Fury" one shot in 2009. Batman Adventures #12 is set in the Animated Universe and not the main DCU and yet collectors still made that the most coveted issue since it was Harley's first comic appearance in any capacity. The timeline of early Agent Coulson appearances seems to go like this: Iron Man/Incredible Hulk/Nick Fury one shot, Cinematic Universe - February 2009: Page where he first appears: Iron Man 2: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. one shot, Cinematic Universe, first cover appearance: November 2010 Battle Scars #1, first 616 appearance, although not referred to as Agent Coulson until Battle Scars #6 - November 2011
  7. Most 2nd prints I've seen have some degree of miswrap, seems to have been a reoccurring problem on this issue.
  8. Also, #362 has a second print with the silver ink background.
  9. Just for reference purposes, the census numbers on the 1st and 2nd print as of today are 930 Universal 9.8 first prints, compared to only 49 Universal 9.8 second prints.
  10. The same thing happened for awhile with the asm 300 chromium reprint. For awhile that was actually "more" valuable than the first printing. Now it's not close. The second printing of asm 361 isn't a scarce comic at all. I fully expect the first printing to pull away from the second printing sooner rather than later for good, as happened with 300. Pretty much everybody wants the first printing of the first appearance of a major character, whereas "second printings" are a bit more of a niche sub-market with a smaller collector base. -J. I'm sorry, but some of what you said above doesn't hold up to scrutiny. First of all,the ASM #300 chromium reprint is not the ASM #300 second print. It came out 10 years later and is officially Marvel Collectibles Classic #1. The ASM #361 second print came out a month after the first print. That's a completely different comparison. Secondly, The ASM #361 second print is extremely scarce compared first print in universal 9.8. There are 917 blue 9.8's of the first print on the census, compared to only 47 blue 9.8's of the second print. I've been watching second prints on eBay and they don't come up much often. When they do they're bought within hours or sooner. And I didn't say the chromium 300 was the "second printing", now did I illustrious? Further, please don't make the same mistake so many other do by equating currently low census numbers with "rarity". Very little from the copper age is actually "rare". If these second printings hold any sustained value, more and more will hit the census, and that will only hasten the price disparity between the first print. There are usually a couple available at any given time as is. (thumbs u -J. The numbers between the first print 9.8's and second print 9.8's will be never be close, no matter how many are submitted, the gap is way too large now. The second print will always have much lower numbers in 9.8 since it has the silver ink metallic cover that is unforgiving to even non color breaking creases.

  12. I have a 9.8 with that production tear on the back. I've also noticed all the 9.8 second prints are being bought up quick, I watched three sell in one night on eBay ranging from $170 to $225 per issue.
  13. All of these are complete coverless copies I've picked up in the past few years, with Fedoraman-made reproduction covers attached.
  14. It went for more than $15k. -J. Looks like that CGC 10 copy sold for a bargain with the way prices have been for this book And another sign of impending armageddon... Boston Corbett may actually make money on his 9.9! Would that be the greatest "I told you so" ever on these boards?
  15. Ditto that! with nearly 1,000 more 9.8's on the census. why? The insane speculation bubble we're in now.
  16. I really think 9.8's will catch up with ASM #300 in 9.8 and sell for a grand or more.
