  1. I didn't want to derail his thread, but I don't understand if it's limited to 40 or 50. Seems like it's limited to 50 (40+10). agreed, plus every additional box sold over 40 decreases one of the original buyers odds right? A 1/40 change is better than a 1/50...He gets more money, just adds 10 more raw boxes without increasing the size of the "prize"
  2. I think the seller should state the estimated value of the other 39 boxes. I dont project him selling all 40, which according to his rules will invalidate the entire thread. [EDIT: Seller noted that 39 other boxes will have at least 5 books and be worth between $20-100 total per box]
  3. I think as long as the contents justify the price its fine, my worry is with the "grand prize" approach this one is taking. I sold three mystery boxes with very specific deliverables 1 CGC slab with a GPA greater than $45 + at least $150 retail of HCs & TPBs for $100 contents were variable in content, not value. when you start varying value it gets sticky.
  4. Uh Oh This Could be a Slippery Slope Anyone else have a problem/concern with this? It does go back to buyers can choose whether to give their money to someone, but these type of "Chance Listings" (as ebay calls them) are rife for sketchiness. 40 boxes costing $200 each = $8000 1 Winner gets $1500 worth of slabbs 39 losers get ? worth of raw comics? Im betting it doesnt add up to $8,000 retail (or otherwise) I think the seller needs to be pretty explicit with what the "loser" boxes will have in them. And this one doesnt... Again it goes back to sellers can choose where to spend their money... but this one is a slippery slope as opposed to other Mystery Box offerings which were more of the "get lots of stuff on the cheap as long as you dont mind not knowing exactly what you are getting"
  5. Im not going to trust a USPS employee to interpret the nuances of a vague postal code. I assume the following thought process: 1. Media mail is for books. 2. This is not a book. HULK SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!! thus I dont ship slabs media, and man when a dealer does it makes me twitchy...
  6. I agree on this. Here's another point for making this a clean rule. When people have shipped using media mail in the past, if the USPS decides to enforce the rule and then deliver with postage due, who is on the hook for the postage due? If the buyer paid for the shipping, its probably them, but what if shipping was included? It gets a little murky and makes the transaction less clean [there is at least one sales thread that clearly states that the buyer will be responsible for any postage due situations when it comes to media mail, but most to not make this point] Would the clean rule state something to the effect of: Raw and Encapsulated comic books are not eligible for USPS Media Mail shipping, and as a result should not be offered with a media mail shipping option. Trade Paperbacks, Hardcovers and other "collected editions" are eligible for USPS Media Mail and can be sold with that shipping option.
  7. looking at a current sale. someone here sold a VF/NM X-men 129 for $40 on ebay they are selling for a range from $47-60 an X-Men 134 VF/NM sold here for $20 they seem to be averaging $25 on ebay Assuming that paypal/ebay takes 10%+ of the ebay price its pretty close. eBay might realize 10-15% more, but considering the high return rate for raw books, I think you are far better selling here.

  9. Curious... anyone know conditions of late 80s era date stamps? Were military posts still date stamping books at receipt? Maybe international markets? Just wondering if there are any conditions that still led to people needing to stamp books well into the 80s...

  11. Thanks! I'm also gonna post some notes to help people narrow down time frames for books... ie. For Charleton early 70s books seem to be +4 months or so: Books with September publish dates, have March date stamps. Marvel early 70s seems to be 2 months: Books with April publish dates have Jan date stamps Marvel late 60s seems to also be +4 months: Books with March publish dates have prior December date stamps DC early 60s seems to be tighter to 2 months: Books with July publish dates have May date stamps. Harvey Mid 60 also has 4 month span: Books with October publish date have Late June (possibly early July?) date stamps
  12. There's an old thread/want list of people looking for specific date stamps. Give me a minute to find it. Is There a "Looking for a Specific Date Stamp" Thread? Sweet. I may use that thread as a jumping off point...
  13. OK, baring this happening in the past. Here's what you do. 3 pieces of info 1. List your target date stamp 2. Flexability on the stamp (is your heart set on exact Month, day, year? Month & year ok? Month and day ok even if its not the target year) 3. If there is a key title/publisher/genre you would want to see it on (special look out for ____). Here's Me 1. Feb 6, 1975 2. Flexible on stamp (Feb 6 or Feb 75) 3. Green Lantern/Green Lantern appearances
  14. Has anyone here ever tried to compile/maintain a list of members who are interested in particular date stamps (maybe even on particular books)? I ask because, someone PMed me asking about a book I recently purchased that I posted (which had a date stamp) checking to see what the exact stamp was. It ended up not being a match (thought a 13 was an 18 and had hopes, but alas), but it got me thinking "I'll keep an eye out for this date stamp on this book if I come across it in the future". Now I know some people keep an eye out for books with their birthdate stamp, and maybe even target certain books they want with that stamp. And I wondered if more eyes were better. I spend way more time looking at books than actually buying and I thought if I came across a date stamp someone was on the lookout for it'd be pretty sweet to help them make a connection. Anything like this been attempted before?
  15. Cant think of a scenario where the market will end up making him money. Maybe if Deadpool becomes real, runs for President and wins (or Wins American Idol, either way)... or maybe he's secretly plotting to find all the other 9.9 owners and "rub them (the books) out" Sopranos style.
  16. Currently no 9.9s or 10.0s of Saga #1 (Regular or RRP) Peterpanzerfaust #1 The Sixth Gun #1 Im sure everyone will exercise restraint if one were to ever pop up...
  17. Once you no longer have the single highest something people stop paying "whatever ungodly amount they can afford"... so his entire argument became moot once a 10.0 became a reality. Now all the 9.9s just get in line.
  18. I've had Night Nurse #4 on my Lady in White list for a while. Every copy has either been way overpriced, lower grade raw or nowhere to be found. Thanks to 4GEMWORKS for selling me this one. He had the 4 issue run (all CGCed) for sale on eBay, I asked him about the posibility of breaking them up, and he was great to work with... and now I have this beauty.
  19. new topic. People put the comic title and maybe even issue number in your offerings! Somewhere, anywhere! Not everyone reads thru every thread in the marketplace (especially if the first offerings aren't their cup of tea). Many people just skip the "Mixed" sub-forum all together. Lots of times (when I dont have time to go thru all the threads) I search for "Lantern" in the whole marketplace to see what's out there, and people just posting scans and prices will never show up in even the most basic of searches.
  20. Won a Bronze Age Horror lot recently. All Neal Adams covers. No nose bleeds but nice affordable copies for the completest in all of us. House of Secrets 90, a gothic horror lady for my collection (I know she's not in white, but I'll forgive her), pairs well with my low grade SS copy. Witching Hour 13, lowest grade in the lot, but classic cover! House of Mystery 189 with WHITE pages Phantom Stranger #13 And Phantom Stranger #12 White pages again, and one of my favorite covers.
