  1. if this is in reference to the cons I mentioned... the threads got poofed. One was someone asking for "information" about a book he bought (Superman 1) that looked like a photocopied cover (it was real grainy/fuzzy, especially compared to the clarity in the photo around it). The thread (originally posted in marketplace) got moved to GA and was determined to be some con fishing. Second con was a Detective #33 (4.0) that was for sale, but GAtor determined that the seller didn't have possession of the book (was owned by someone else), and when pushed the OP produced a photo that looked like a photocopy of a cover had been placed inside a slab (with a label). The book in question had actually been re-subbed by the REAL owner and had been downgraded from a 4.0 to a 3.5. Both transactions provided email addresses (based on their CGC member name) in an attempt to move negotiations off the board as quickly as possible before anyone got wind of the scam.
  2. later this week (depending on when they come in) some nice affordable Bronze Horror Neal Adams books. CGCed.
  3. Any point in adding the couple of scans from Friday night onto the HOS? I doubt they'll (or he'll, cause I have a feeling it was one person) be back under those IDs ever again.... but wonder if its worth it. maybe even not the type of scam attempted so if someone were to check the HOS list in the future (should another "new" member try to sell a high priced book) they could at least see the past scams so their radar was appropriately tuned. thoughts?
  4. OK just acquired this so I have to ask, is there a list of what's considered "key" Archie Covers? Or key Betty/Veronica covers? (I'd assume any list w.o Archie #50 at or near the top of the charts to be suspect!)
  5. So was there a ripple effect on modern speculation when Sixth Gun didn't get picked up and some people started to sell off their copies of the books? I dont spend much time in the modern market, so I thought I'd ask. Looks like Saga prices have settled down a little in the last month around the same time, I dont know about other books like Revival and others... So is hot a little less hot after the Sixth Gun "correction" (or how ever its being referred to). [note: Im not making a dig at any collector here, Im curious, so Im asking. No judgement, no critique, no pleasure in seeing books decrease in value, just a question]
  6. I absolutely hate that cover! I dislike it so much that I only bought the issue to get closer to completing my GL run. [bLOCKED] (sooooo kidding.... do you not like the greytone?)
  7. hepcat, nice list and I like your GL cover choices... but you missed a great one.
  8. I think most will agree... Now if it was a collector who loved the book as his/her own and wanted it signed I'd give a begrudging pass... but its a dealer, who got it signed, trippled the price (vs what he paid for the book in 2011) and has let it sit on ebay. Ruining a pedigree just to try and milk some more money out of an amazing book (single highest ped)
  9. Not high grade, not White PQ, but its mine all mine! Thanks to hibou for selling me this book at a nice price. For a guy collecting on a budget I never thought I'd have a shot at a slabbed 76, but now that I have one upgrade?
  10. final value seems in line with what the books been selling for over the last year. Someone bit on a $245 BIN on a 9.2 last month, so that gave the 9.0s a little room to grow, otherwise the 9.2 price and the 9.0 prices have been neck and neck.

  13. Product Lifecycle Management: 21st Century Paradigm for Product Realisation riveting...
  14. If they add to this statement "...and I'll sell for slightly less since I am now saving on a Final Value Fee and Final Shipping Fee" then I think it is a win all-around. If they are going to sell it at the same price, then it is just a benefit for the seller. I guess the only way I see this as kosher is if all thats being advertised is "hey Im selling these on ebay, if you win and you're a board member I'll split the FVF and FSF savings with you if you want to do the deal here once the auction ends" otherwise its like saying "eff the people bidding in the auction, which at the moment is less than my non-ebay BIN asking price I've listed here". but then again I get annoyed with the eBay sellers who cancel auctions cause they arent going to get the price they want, or do a deal offline when there's already plenty of action on their auction. If you list it, you sell it. To the winner.
  15. What do people think of eBay sellers listing their auctions here but offering to end auctions early if someone offers to buy at their (non-eBay) BIN prices? My is that it's not kosher ... but I'm more of a eBay buyer than a seller...
  16. Infantino and others... So I try to be pretty tight in my collecting focuses. Green Lantern (priority on signature series) and adding to or upgrading my Gothic Horror Lady in White themed collection. But last year I decided that I wanted to try to get signed books (SS where possible) by all of the greats who laid the foundation for all the comics I'd later enjoy when I was a kid in the 80s. Part of this desire stemmed from my sadness that I'd never get a Signature Series Gil Kane book (since he died before the program), as that he was the co-creator of Green Lantern, my favorite superhero. So my first target was to get a signature from Carmine Infantino, who did so much for DC before my time, most notably creating the silver age Flash. Infantino's ability to show motion on the static page was always amazing to me, and influenced so many artists throughout the deacades. So I was lucky enough to get his signature on a Flash book thanks to the facilitation of Desert Wind Comics last year. He passed away not two weeks after I got my book back from CGC. I felt so lucky and blessed to have a book by Infantino, even if I never had the chance to meet him myself. My family situation precludes me from being able to go to almost any convention, maybe in a decade this will change, maybe not, but for now I have to rely on the facilitation of others and just be happy with having a book that was held and signed by some of the creators I respect so much. I wish that I would have had a chance to thank him in person, but hopefully the amount of love that was shown to him by the collecting community made him know how important he was to all of us. I'll be adding to this journal as I plan for, and acquire more signatures by some of the great. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  17. For the $6,652.00 you spent, you can join our club. Nice book! Feel bad for the guy who owned it before you (that same book sold back in July for $9900). With only 6 9.8s on census, and this being the lone SS one (and Im not sure I can imagine anyone rolling the dice on cracking one of the other 9.8s to try and get an Adams sig) your premuim over the univeral 9.8s seems reasonable.
  18. My nomination for coolest DVD package EVER ! Love that there's almost 5000 reviews for a DVD set that hasnt come out. They should put ZERO effort into the DVD mastering/audio/packaging and just release a turd of a product. It already has a 5 star rating based on 5k reviews...
  19. Having a cruddy day, scanning and adding this to the registry is making it better.
  20. Dude we are imminently headed to the same territory. 19 year old cat with diabetes and is getting more and more insulin resistant. Our 4 year old commented yesterday that she "was worried because Oscar doesnt talk as much as he used to" so much feels. not looking forward to the kid-death conversation...
  21. I get the 3% extra for paypal... but that would be 1150 vs $1185... am I wrong that Paypal takes 3%? Is there some condition where they charge closer to to 10%? Some sellers seem to dislike what they see as the PayPal hassle, in addition to the PayPal fees. Maybe that's why this seller is slapping on a big PayPal penalty. It goes without saying, of course, that from the buyer's point of view, dropping PayPal protection requires some thought. Is it a penalty out of fear that someone will pull a paypal scam and pull back the payment? Cause otherwise the # of days you wait for a check/mo to arrive/clear is no longer than the time waiting for a transfer from my paypal account to my bank account....

  23. just kidding.... Was having a bad day so I decided to get a nice scan of my recently acquired Night Nurse 2. With only a few books in the set (4) and only a few people on the registry (10) I'm filled with the desire to complete this set and at least be top 3, but we'll see. I have a nice-ish raw #4 for my Lady in White collection, that might get a press before slabbing. I've also toyed with the idea of getting all the female talent at a con to sign a Night Nurse book for SS submission as an homage to Marvel's 70 version of "equality" vs today's modern female creator. Either way. Love this book and was glad to buy it as part of a fundraising effort over on the CGC message boards for one of our members who had health problems (and all the accompanying bills) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here.
