  1. If they add to this statement "...and I'll sell for slightly less since I am now saving on a Final Value Fee and Final Shipping Fee" then I think it is a win all-around. If they are going to sell it at the same price, then it is just a benefit for the seller. I guess the only way I see this as kosher is if all thats being advertised is "hey Im selling these on ebay, if you win and you're a board member I'll split the FVF and FSF savings with you if you want to do the deal here once the auction ends" otherwise its like saying "eff the people bidding in the auction, which at the moment is less than my non-ebay BIN asking price I've listed here". but then again I get annoyed with the eBay sellers who cancel auctions cause they arent going to get the price they want, or do a deal offline when there's already plenty of action on their auction. If you list it, you sell it. To the winner.
  2. What do people think of eBay sellers listing their auctions here but offering to end auctions early if someone offers to buy at their (non-eBay) BIN prices? My is that it's not kosher ... but I'm more of a eBay buyer than a seller...
  3. Infantino and others... So I try to be pretty tight in my collecting focuses. Green Lantern (priority on signature series) and adding to or upgrading my Gothic Horror Lady in White themed collection. But last year I decided that I wanted to try to get signed books (SS where possible) by all of the greats who laid the foundation for all the comics I'd later enjoy when I was a kid in the 80s. Part of this desire stemmed from my sadness that I'd never get a Signature Series Gil Kane book (since he died before the program), as that he was the co-creator of Green Lantern, my favorite superhero. So my first target was to get a signature from Carmine Infantino, who did so much for DC before my time, most notably creating the silver age Flash. Infantino's ability to show motion on the static page was always amazing to me, and influenced so many artists throughout the deacades. So I was lucky enough to get his signature on a Flash book thanks to the facilitation of Desert Wind Comics last year. He passed away not two weeks after I got my book back from CGC. I felt so lucky and blessed to have a book by Infantino, even if I never had the chance to meet him myself. My family situation precludes me from being able to go to almost any convention, maybe in a decade this will change, maybe not, but for now I have to rely on the facilitation of others and just be happy with having a book that was held and signed by some of the creators I respect so much. I wish that I would have had a chance to thank him in person, but hopefully the amount of love that was shown to him by the collecting community made him know how important he was to all of us. I'll be adding to this journal as I plan for, and acquire more signatures by some of the great. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  4. For the $6,652.00 you spent, you can join our club. Nice book! Feel bad for the guy who owned it before you (that same book sold back in July for $9900). With only 6 9.8s on census, and this being the lone SS one (and Im not sure I can imagine anyone rolling the dice on cracking one of the other 9.8s to try and get an Adams sig) your premuim over the univeral 9.8s seems reasonable.
  5. My nomination for coolest DVD package EVER ! Love that there's almost 5000 reviews for a DVD set that hasnt come out. They should put ZERO effort into the DVD mastering/audio/packaging and just release a turd of a product. It already has a 5 star rating based on 5k reviews...
  6. Having a cruddy day, scanning and adding this to the registry is making it better.
  7. Dude we are imminently headed to the same territory. 19 year old cat with diabetes and is getting more and more insulin resistant. Our 4 year old commented yesterday that she "was worried because Oscar doesnt talk as much as he used to" so much feels. not looking forward to the kid-death conversation...
  8. I get the 3% extra for paypal... but that would be 1150 vs $1185... am I wrong that Paypal takes 3%? Is there some condition where they charge closer to to 10%? Some sellers seem to dislike what they see as the PayPal hassle, in addition to the PayPal fees. Maybe that's why this seller is slapping on a big PayPal penalty. It goes without saying, of course, that from the buyer's point of view, dropping PayPal protection requires some thought. Is it a penalty out of fear that someone will pull a paypal scam and pull back the payment? Cause otherwise the # of days you wait for a check/mo to arrive/clear is no longer than the time waiting for a transfer from my paypal account to my bank account....

  10. just kidding.... Was having a bad day so I decided to get a nice scan of my recently acquired Night Nurse 2. With only a few books in the set (4) and only a few people on the registry (10) I'm filled with the desire to complete this set and at least be top 3, but we'll see. I have a nice-ish raw #4 for my Lady in White collection, that might get a press before slabbing. I've also toyed with the idea of getting all the female talent at a con to sign a Night Nurse book for SS submission as an homage to Marvel's 70 version of "equality" vs today's modern female creator. Either way. Love this book and was glad to buy it as part of a fundraising effort over on the CGC message boards for one of our members who had health problems (and all the accompanying bills) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. 11. If this thread gets locked does Arch get -5 points? Arch, thanks for all you guys/girls do to keep this forum in the upright and locked position despite others efforts to tip it over.
  12. Just saw this happen... OP Luis posts a run of The Sixth Gun for sale, read the thread here. after 5 pages of back and forth complete with discussion of fair value, recent ebay sales and such this gem gets posted: WOW. Taking selling in someone elses thread to a whole new level. Summary: OP: Im seeling Books A-Z for $1000 5 pages later... 2nd guy: Im seling Books A-Z for $1000 later this week others are complaining about the OP pulling the books after a period of time, and arguing about what the books are "worth" on the market... the OP hasnt put a stop to the crazy talk, but good lord its (as my daughter would say) a debacle.
  13. Gotta check my list but this might be the last Gothic Lady in White for my collection!
  14. As insane as some modern series are, this surprises me not at all. "Oh, Snap, Comic X is going uuuuuuuuppppppp - better boost that ask!" Also wonder if there is some behind the scenes PMing from others with the same book saying "dude if you sell it for that the market will drop to that level, so up your price"
  15. So is it kosher for a seller to raise prices (unmarked) in their sales thread before a sale is made? Just curious (not me or my sale, just watched it happen in a different listing) Im a big proponent of a seller gets to ask what a seller wants, but changing the price after listing seems a little dodgy to me. (granted no one hit the BIN yet, so its a moot point cause it doesnt affect a transaction... but still seemed a bit uncouth)
  16. Selling a bunch of Shelf Porn: Hardcovers Omnibus Collected Editions Complete Runs all sorts of fun stuff http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6590346#Post6590346 will start doing freebies and specials tomorrow maybe to try and entice you guys!
  17. Yeah to me the Probation List and the HOS are no different (as far as how I use them). I avoid both lists when considering dealings. The other benefit is that it gives a seller an easy out if a PL/HOSer posts a "take it" then they have the complete freedom to say NO and keep the book available immediately.
  18. Sweet! (And excited cause that means my ECC books cant be far off!)
  19. Wow just went back to the Sales thread that Larry krapped on (Guardians of the Galaxy Phantom variant presale) and its now clean as the driven snow. No threats, no nothing..... just the OP and one sale listing. wonder who coerced that clean sweep.... I certainly hope a strike was handed out (to Larry for crapping in a thread where a seller was selling the same book as him but at a lower price), but my pessimism doubts it happened.
  20. There must have been some threadkrapping bug spread by CAL's reverse auction... now we've got an OP getting krapped on for pre-selling a Phantom variant of the Guardians of the Galaxy book, and getting krapped on by none other than LarrysComics... who is one of the Phantom distributors/retailers... who is also selling the same book on his website right now for more than the OP is selling their copies... While the topic of whether what the OP is doing is "redistribution" or not (since apparently the Phantoms cant be "redistributed"), and the topic of pre-selling books is always a mix (some are fine with it, some are not), the fact that someone who is selling the same book (on their website at a higher price) is krapping on another OP seems pretty low. What am I missing here that justifies Larry's position on this? See the action here: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6542250#Post6542250
  21. was hoping that one thread could be here in the discussion section, vs in an actual sales thread....
  22. wondering if someone could be nominated to the PL for citing non-verifiable, or non-accurate sales information (GPA or otherwise)... it's not against the rules, so it must be ok to make up sales info yes?
  23. In general, I'm not a fan of the whole signature series idea, but books like this are EXACTLY the kind I would want to get signed. That Infantino sig turns this copy from a nice little reprint into something special, and doesn't do any damage to a lovely vintage book. Very cool! That was my goal too, I just wish there were more nice vintage reprint covers (not the Milestone ones, ones that REALLY look like the original).
  24. I'd say use the "Notify mods" button and state your case, then let the mods decide if they want to poof the thread/contact the OP or what. Most people here play by the spirit of the rules, some play by the letter of the rules... but where its up to interpretation, just report it to the mods and move on.
