Info on Storing Graded Comics Upright
newshane replied to J McKim's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Hi friend! You can find everything by browsing the thread below: STORAGE Edit: make sure to scroll up. I think I broke things down in three or four different posts. It's kind of like a metastudy. -

For clarity, that "anecdotal evidence" from the boardie is in favor of spine down. -
Info on Storing Graded Comics Upright
newshane replied to J McKim's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
The only thing I've heard is anecdotal evidence from very experienced and well-regarded boardie. I wrote a huge article on all of this several years ago (may already be linked). The CGC recommends storing them upright so...... Either way is fine. Some people would rather be safe than sorry. The only time I think it might matter is in the case of books with severe overhang. -
SO, what else did you buy?!

ComCav... can you teach me how to make money at home? Or, how to make money in general?
-
Would make zero difference to me and 99% of other collectors. If anything, I feel better about slabs with tabs. Anything that cuts down on the books movement within the well gives me extra piece of mind.

Number 6 is the unicorn. The others? Not so much.

FOR SALE - Blue Circle 6 - CGC Universal Grade of 4.0 (Very Good) with Cream to Off-white pages. Gerber rarity index - 8 (RARE - estimated 11-20 copies). Special notation: may not exist There are four on the census. This affordable copy is the lowest graded. Interesting book. I have copied and pasted the following information directly from Mycomicshop.com "Contents do not match cover. The sixth issue of this run consisted of a new cover used to recover different remaindered comics dating from the late 1940's to early 1950's and several variations exist. This variation contains the remaindered comic - Martin Kane - Private Eye #nn - and it was re-covered by the publisher, Rural, without page 1 of the first story. This was probably intended to be the third issue of the Martin Kane (1950 Fox) series, but it was never published. It includes the following Martin Kane stories: "Case of the Royal Rubies", "Ballad of Death", & "The King of Blackmail", plus a 2 page detective text story." MCS I hope the pics turned out okay. I'm too lazy to hook up my scanner after moving my computer to the other side of the house. Isn't that sad?

That's hardcore.

My concern would be the archival quality of the item. It's made of glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as PETG. I'm pretty sure that's the same product used by CGC's main competitor. I've never personally handled the product, but it sounds worth a try. Like Joey said above, another concern would be the weight of the product. I don't see anything wrong with buying a small quantity to try. Just watch the type/size of bag you use. Keep us posted!

Would you open this sealed Spider-Man comic?
newshane replied to XxSpideyxX's topic in Comics General
Keep it sealed if it's a run-of-the-mill 252, which it appears to be. -

Encapsulation question for the masses
newshane replied to Sensei Ryan's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
I admit that I haven't read the link to the thread... but CGC will reject books with overhang. This is most commonly seen in older books (pre-silver). From my understanding, if they think the encapsulation process will in anyway damage a book (like one with overhang), they will refuse to grade it.
