Brazilian golden age Timley Gibi Mensal 41
Foxtrot70 posted a topic in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only
Hi selling rare Gibi mensal 41 with classic subby cover. Published 1944. $1850 PayPal shipping included conus. Outside USA require actual shipping cost book had staples removed which is common practice in Brazil to preserve books. Super nice copy otherwise w supple off white paper. These books are usually trashed if you find them. The war era are extremely rare in any grade. -

This thread needs bump. Here is my copy. What an awesome book and still very affordable. I suspect if more people got to flip through it and hold it the popularity would blow up. Now days collecting seems mostly movie driven hype and with so many channels for tv what are odds young kids are watching the old Tarzan shows on the weekend to enjoy ERB enough to pursue related comics.

Hard to have a favorite EC book but these two are lovely side by side. When I was teenager they were hot commodity so very thankful they cooled off over the years so I can enjoy owning the originals weird science 12 (1) and weird fantasy 13 (1)

Show me your Timely's and I'll show you mine. Have a Cigar...
Foxtrot70 replied to Timely's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Here is one of my favorite comics and closest I can get to owning Sub-Mariner origin story from MM1. This issue contains subby MM1 and human torch story from MM4. The cover is redrawn panels from MM1 story. This title is the very first comic format published in Brazil by editor Globo Juvenil. The first 12 issues were sold monthly as newspaper supplement the first year 1940. Timely material begins April. The numbering is based on weekly newspaper that was in progress. Then in Jan 1941 reboot at #1 They are so rare collectors in Brazil have never seen them. Hope you enjoy -

Here is some foreign eye candy. The Brazilian market was one of the most productive for golden age. They were good at working up the splash page to be redrawn for the cover. One of my favorite covers in the Gibi Mensal series. -

I still have several of the early 90s Gladstone reprints. I like the format and colors are good. Only issue that sucks is Haunt of Fear 17 (3) because original art doesn't exist anymore.

Not that I find any value in price variants but Don't forget NY world fair 1939.

The most notorious cover of all time that has Hulk 181 demand levels how many long time EC completist collectors fell asleep at the wheel thinking oh it's cheap and common I will get my copy later ? Then price creeps up and you think oh that won't go any higher I will wait for it to cool off Then few years later you have to anti up Dohhh Here is my copy

Nice pick up. Nothing like owning the originals. And Shock always have good stories.

Here is my copy. It is the foreign edition published by La Prensa in Mexico but distributed all over South and Latin America and Spain. The publisher had a bi weekly cycle to keep the press running so was common to merge titles In this case strange tales was included with fantastic four title. They also took some editorial liberty on coloring This issue was given a white background Probably to cut ink cost
