  1. wow, I am surprised at that! If a title like that can't survive, you wonder what chance lesser franchises have. The Dead Space games sell well, and a lot of franchises survive on much less. I'm guessing this is some sort of mismanagement on EA's end; most likely an inflated budget. Current production methods of video games must be unsustainable these days.
  2. I have played it with my son a few times and I enjoyed it. He really likes getting new characters to play. I think it is a cool but costly idea. I would say so, Activision has sold $1b and 100 million toys since the 2011 launch. I consider this an ingenious way to legitimize DLC by requiring a purchase of a toy. Still, it's very cool for 6-10 year olds--which fits my kids to a T. I'll admit, it's cool too.
  3. Anyone here playing Skylanders? It's definitely a kids game, with an insidious twist: you collect toys that you play in the game. Some consider it something akin to paid content unlock (as the game's character is already on the disk)...but I have to admit---the OCD collector in me gets a big kick collecting and finding these just as I do the comics. My son is the true fan though--he loves it. I've got the complete series 1 and series 2 (so far)...and they've announced Swap Force...now you can create 256 combinations of 16 characters. Whatcha think? http://kotaku.com/5982346/theres-skylanders-swap-force-footage-in-this-video-and-its-lovely
  4. That looks like my pile as well, but I also have Jonah Hex!
  5. There are definitely some VERY NICE DC classics such as this. Doesn't hurt it's from Adams, either.
  6. thanks for the eyes grider, which book were you referring to? The Dracula? Sinister House. The top cover where the staple is located is separating. Also check your staples for rust as well. Great book. Within my horror genre. (thumbs u Good eyes. BTW, the color choice for this cover KILLS the art. The OA tells the tale.
  7. That SOSL #1 looks good...interesting to hear what's wrong when you get it in hand.
  8. You guys have really sold me on the microtek...too bad it's no longer in production. The feedback I've heard is that it's SSSLLLOOOOWWW at scanning. My HP 8200 shows glares, but VueScan has drastically improved the output for me to justify keeping it for now.
  9. Like comicwiz says, when it comes to glare..."it's not you, it's me" being it's the scanner. None of the settings in the world from a software perspective is going to get rid of it...it's the LED vs. fluorescent conversation.
  10. I waited a while to get the Witching Hour copy and definitely sweated. Word to the wise--grab 'em fresh! BTW, Weird War Tales was just released on 1/8. Get it cheap on Amazon! Absolutely. The comedy within is between the 3 witches (who host the stories) and Igor. Good stuff. Definitely get it. Amazon has it for $20...not the best price but I can't seem to find that one (not even LCS). You can't go wrong with at least the first volume of ANY of these titles. They tend to get dicier as they go along...we can talk about quality of the various series if u need to but like I said HOM is the strongest through it's entire run (the quality suffered in the mid 70s but got better). Of course none of these have gone past VOL 1 except for HOM and HOS so you are good.
  11. I'd put him on the same level as Dominguez. Very solid and under-rated. Kubert and late SA/early BA Adams are untouchable. Kubert's work was so abundant it'ss easy to dismiss him, but the man was a genius. Doesn't matter the genre or the scene...it always WORKED.
  12. For some reason I thought he said two short STACKS.
  13. So, let's say it was your book - something super-hot like Walking Dead 1. You call in and are informed it was just graded a 9.8, and on the way to encapsulation. At this point you are seeing dollar signs everywhere you look, because this is big bucks we are now talking about. But then later you call back in after encapsulation, and are informed it is now a 9.4 or 9.6 instead of the 9.8 you were originially told. So rather than be perceived as whining or crying your heart out, you'd just shrug and say, "Oh well - happens" without any complaint? #1 They won't give out grades anymore in the "graded but not encapsulated" phase. #2 I take pictures of my books---if they come back damaged you'll bet I'll be putting a phone call to them. P.S. CGC has in fact damaged books DURING encapsulation and promptly called me and made good on the grade differential. I'm not sure if they do that these days.

  15. Each comic has two or three stories of about 4-5 pages each...typical DC plots are : 1. Killer haunted by ghost of killed person who enacts revenge (typical in Ghosts) 2. Plot twists / surprise endings (typical in Unexpected) 3. Sell your soul to the devil plotlines The actual settings are varied...and many more types but the above are a trend in my DCs. HOM had the most variety...I'd definitely start there. If you don't enjoy that title then horror anthology just isn't for you. If you want try it out... I recommend Showcase Presents Ghosts, HOM, HOS, or Witching Hour. They run about $16.99 to $19.99. They are black and white and not color with no ads. Oh yeah, I forgot. Some of those are getting a little tough to find. I've downloaded some of the torrents since I have the physical book.

  17. Thanks for reminding me the crazy nuts I paid for my copies...
  18. Well, the problem is there's always someone else filling the gaps/holes. I see Rick going down in flames in a fight, not with a wimper. No way is the comic making it to #200. Well you had better speak to Kirkman as he has been saying for at least a year that he intends it to be a 300 issue series. It's his decision to milk the cow.

  20. Shouldn't be...if anything, eBay would be a better indicator as it certainly has more traffic than MCS. You're able to discern foot traffic for eBay for comic collectors, as opposed to a site dedicated to the collectible? Given eBay's track record I'd say consignment shops now have the upper hand. Look at the number of unique visitors for a CGC comic ending, and compare that to the number of registered customers for a consignment site. I'd bet eBay loses.
  21. That's the point. I want to collect something I won't have to bother spending money on because you won't be able to find it! It just takes time and patience. Trying to collect this BA stuff that is common as dirt in HG has been doing plenty of that already.
