  1. The ASM I would say is an easy 4.5. The TOS is a little harder to pin down as I've never encountered only external staple rust stains like that - but I'm thinking 5.0 is the lowest it will be.
  2. I'll join the thread, as who could resist such a high grade double digit TEC for only a few hundred bucks? It looks so clean and perfect in hand, I love it. The photo doesn't do it justice, and I would easily believe it was a higher grade if looking at it raw. The notes on it mention: light creasing to cover, light shadow full bottom of back cover (honestly not visible at all, I really struggle to see it), light spine stress lines to cover small (nothing color breaking), multiple staple tear (amounts to two small ticks by the top staple).
  3. I have not bought from them yet, but when I did inquire via email about some big books last year ($3k+) asking for more information or even a back scan (some of their scans were very blurring and cropped oddly) they never got back to me (not just a single request, sent a few for different books over the course of a few months)
  4. I think now that the speculation and hype train for the Moon Knight show has come and gone we can address some of the books that have seen more interest, specifically the second volume that featured the first appearance of Arthur Harrow. Current 9.8 point values: Moon Knight #v2 #1 Universal = 75 points Moon Knight #v2 #2 Universal = 67 points Moon Knight #v2 #3 Universal = 53 points Moon Knight #v2 #4 Universal = 53 points Moon Knight #v2 #5 Universal = 32 points Moon Knight #v2 #6 Universal = 53 points All of the issues for this series saw considerable new sales and a price correction over the last year, and while they are no longer at the highs they hit in 2021 they have levelled out to overall higher prices than they were before (especially #2 and #6) I would like to request a slight bump for all the issues, but a large point correction for #2 specifically due to the show driving sale interest in it. Scores adjusted per Overstreet Access 9.2
  5. Also if anyone lives in New York I'll be visiting soon (July 5-8) and could bring it with me if you wanted to meet up. PM me any offers (price is $300 less than GPA, but not firm) or questions.
  6. Please no hall of shamers or probies. We will ship anywhere in North America, shipping will be a flat $20. Price is in USD, and I only accept Pay Pal (or e-transfer for fellow Canadians). No returns on graded books. Check out my kudos thread for my history of selling/buying - I'll treat you right! First timestamped gets it over any ongoing PM offers. Just one book today but it is a great one Strange Stories From Another World #4 Fawcett Publications, 1952 Cream to Off-White pages CGC 6.0, Universal This is one of the best classic zombie covers of the golden age, featuring an amazing painted cover by Norman Saunders depicting the undead rising from the murky depths. The cover displays perfectly, with no eye sore creases or missing chunks to distract from the art. CGC case is blemish free, without any scratches or cracks. Colors on the book are nice and vivid (bright yellows as the day they were printed, and the green/blue of the ocean is lovely) Note: During encapsulation or possibly shipping afterward a small bit of an overhanging interior page flaked off. The pages are not brittle, and when I brought this issue up to CGC they said it could be re-holdered without issue (I have not done so because shipping from Canada just expensive and it was for my PC by I've since upgraded). See pics for details, flakes are located at the top right of the case and bottom right side edge) Graders Notes: light wear spine breaks color moderate cover tanning very light staining to cover very small chip out left top of cover very small tear top of front cover GPA for the issue inside the spoiler. Last sale in this exact grade was only a few months ago for $1,400usd. SOLD Additional pictures in the spoiler here (please excuse the random dog hair that keeps appearing on my shots even though I try to clean them off - my dog is a monster hair demon. Those are not defects on the book or the case.)
  7. Honestly I think the chances of a Sandman appearance is much better odds than more other GA heroes. We literally have the Gaiman Sandman series coming out which made the the connection to Dodds (so not only could I see him appearing in some sort of cameo in that series, but the show might popularize the gas mask again and inspire DC to push the character)
  8. I don't think it is literal djinn's in her case, but rather just appear to match the tales she grew up with (others might have called them something different had the situation been changed). They could possibly just be what might have inspired the original tales of djinn, but how the djinn came to be regarded - and how the literary/cultural traditions developed - in such things as the Quran afterwards is totally separate from them.
  9. While I know this poll was specifically about Checking Copies, if anyone has any other odd manufacturing/promotional books that don't appear often and are not recognized let us know (I know there are books stamped with 'promotional copy / not for resale' which are fairly common, but would love to know if there are any other marked books along these lines)
  10. Yeah, this happens. I just submitted a book to re-slabbed since they missed the pedigree when the original owner slabbed it originally, but still came back universal even though the pedigree mark was right there on the cover. No response from CGC when I contacted them after about why/how pedigrees are acknowledged.
  11. I mean, it's no Rothko but I would kill to have Onement 6 hanging in my house any day of the week and if I had that sort of money, put me down for a bid Not just because it is a perfect example of abstract expressionisms aim of providing some emotional impact via the most simple of shapes, but because of the wild 'flame' optical effect that happens when viewing in person due to its size/contrast/color (I had the pleasure of viewing it years back and was surprised by the optical 'fire' effect - not something reproducible with online images). One of the few larger pieces I've ever viewed that stuck with me.
  12. You would think that - but I got back a pretty big key recently which I had work done on to address a few glaring issues and CGC missed ALL THE WORK and gave it a Universal label. It's also not like I was trying to pull a fast one - it was submitted with other books that got work done, coming directly from the professional who also disclosed all the work on paper with the submission (It now sits in my PC with a sticky note on the slab, and if it ever has to be sold I'll crack it and list it raw - as I will always disclose all work done but cannot trust any buyer not to screw somebody else with it after it leaves my hands)
  13. My TOS babies are now back from CGC, I sent them in with a few other books as I wanted to reholder them into the modern brushed metal style label that I am obsessed with (it goes perfectly with any Iron Man title!) If anyone here has any other pedigree books from this series and would love to sell em I would happily over pay for them
  14. Help me slowly build up my latest project: ISO Wonder Woman #1 (1942) I'm looking for any wraps or pages for it. I also would love a front/back cover if possible...It's easier to say I will just consider any and all pages from this book rather than listing the specific ones I need - so show me anything you have! I am open to be very generous for them, including cash as well as trades if interested. If you also manage to put me in touch with somebody that I end up buying from I'll be happy to send a bonus finders fee reward to you as well
  15. There are also copies of this exact book that ARE graded (CGC used to grade them as normal, but at some point changed to classifying them as PG...there are sets which include the numerical graded copies of this book), so I would say this specific book needs to be opened up for all.
  16. I'm only aware of the one I deal with, Hellboy (1993-1994), but I'm sure there are more. To be clear, I think these books SHOULD be allowed to be competitive (as they help collectors build towards 100% set completion which is one way to feel like us poor folk have a chance at winning a prize) and them being 0-1 points each is totally reasonable. I was more concerned with being able to add other PG/NG books to other sets I want to try completing.
  17. I'll add my favourite random character, ARSENAL! (My custom set for just him: https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/WCM/ComicCustomSetView.aspx?s=29180 ) Only appeared in three issues, but each one of them he appeared on the covers and spent a good deal of the interior pages beating up all of the biggest Avengers. I consider him the original Doomsday
  18. Looking over a few other registry sets I noticed that some of the other Hellboy collectors managed to add the infamous Supplement book to their sets - this is interesting because it exists with a PG label by CGC with no grade and these such books have always been rejected from being included in the registry sets - has something changed overall or is this only for this unique specific book? I tried added a NG book to a different set (A coverless Tales of Suspense #39) but it still wasn't valid for the registry. I would love to see NG/PG books handled by the registry like the below Hellboy book (no grade shown and only worth a single point - it will help allow budget collectors to still aim for 100% completion - heck, you could make it zero points and so long and we'd be happy)
  19. Great second episode that felt like a good escalation in pacing. The roof top training sequence made me really wish we one day get a young Ice Man in the MCU as seeing those hard light steps and slide were just perfect for such things. Interesting that the drones looked very much like the chunky Stark drones from Far From Home. LoL'd at correcting 'converts' group to 'reverts'; a great example of how they are peppering a great deal of Islamic concepts while keeping them all very much accessible and not absolutely required to understand in order to get the plot (as sometimes it can risk bogging down the dialogue with concepts many might be unfamiliar with - though I'm sure that the scene in the car meant to do this on purpose, so that the audience felt as detached and out of their element as the rest of the car as the two fan gushed about the movies they had in common but others didn't know...except for Kingo, cause everybody knows him)
  20. I personally think the stigma against conserved books and the price gap will lessen over time, as education in it versus restoration increase amongst comic collectors (but until then I'm buying high grade Conserved books for a steal! ) I like to think of it as a Conserved book that got a slight grade bump is for sure at least worth what it was before conservation - as all conservation is reversible so getting back to the state is possible. For my Adventure Comics #48 I track the prices of Universal CGC 1.8 (which is what it was graded before having work done) even though I will also track prices close to its new grade of a Conserved 3.5. For many Golden Age books you can expect that even a slight grade bump will offset any potential value difference lost to the stigma. edit: and for reference, this was the most recent of my books I had Phantom Restoration work on. It came back as a 2.0 Conserved - and you can see the spine was in much worse condition than yours would be after tape removal (mine also had many more tears and extra staples) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXPexzoMpVy/
  21. That book did a pretty large tour of duty...could very well add 'File Copy' and perhaps another half dozen notes to it to be on the safe side
  22. Cost for something like that is best to get a quote directly from the pro, though based on my experience doing something very similar to your book ran me around $250 before grading (but really depends on amount of tape needing to be removed and other work done). Yes it is about quality of work and the pro knowing exactly what CGC is looking out for. In the case of Phantom Restoration he directly talks with CGC constantly about the conservation work being done, making sure everything will pass the check (obviously somethings might still get flagged as restoration, but so far all 100% of the books I've sent him have come back non-restored)
  23. CGC recognizing it would add legitimacy to the stamp (as otherwise it isn't anything different than marks done to a book by a third party after the fact). That example book however makes sense to add Tarzan to the label as otherwise it would look like the label was for the wrong book (since the masthead no longer reflecting the actual comic series name, rather the feature character) - if anything I feel that label needs a more verbose description and not just the singular lonesome name in order to make it more useful.
  24. Perhaps, but so would a cheap red rocket stamp or simply using a pencil to mimic any of the dozens of distinguishing marks for existing pedigrees, yet that hasn't been a problem so far with those (and honestly I don't see Checking Copy adding much value in of itself that would offset any value lost from the damage done by stamping and writing over interior pages would cause)
