  1. So a 33% overhead going straight to the seller to cover stress and other raffles he/she has to join is acceptable in raffles?
  2. Or maybe I'm just old-fashioned? Or not "business savvy" enough? 2 examples from one seller (a board member, actually); perhaps I'm thinking of this wrong. 1. Raffling a book worth <= $300; raffle spots add up to $400. This raffle's spots are nearly full. 2. Raffling two books in one raffle worth <= $17k; raffle spots add up to $20k. Just a few takers on this one as the buy-in is much higher. Since the buy in is considerable, tere are mini-raffles to get into the "main" raffle. I wasn't able to see if this netted the seller even more money, as I started asking questions, was responded to for a bit, then had my comments wiped and was blocked. To me, that seems like a lot of extra money going to seller for not much of a good reason. (For now, I'll ignore the difficult-to-prove legitimacy of any raffle, let alone one done completely online.) Oh, and all fees are collected via PayPal friends and family, so no fees for the seller.
  3. Is this also where we can mention the gullibility and greed of raffles on IG? Recent items like the above, or at least me looking at them closer, make me believe this hobby is no longer for me. At least when it comes to secondary market items.
  4. How did you hear about it? I think it was on estatesales.net.
  5. So that was you on the other side? I'm always wary about bidding high on these, been burned before with cut outs or missing cf - I'll let you know next week which one of us was the smarter one (unless you'd rather not know) And let me know when it's for sale.
  6. With everything that is going on with this book, why not leave it raw?
  7. Slight change of plans, folks. @jsilverjanet will be taking over my booth for this convention. New Different seller, same quality comics and quality deals. I will still be at the show, but as an attendee. @Stevemmg - If there are specific magazine titles you are looking for, send me a PM. If I have them, I can bring them to the show or meet up with you later.
  8. Holy S! When did the TAT on value increase to 100+ days?
  9. Care to share any more details? Price, condition, still available? That’s one I’ve been looking for.
  10. Were the keys picked before the public got in there or picked by other buyers? Best "estate sale" I went to was almost entirely comics, toys, and other kid-related stuff from the 70's-90's. Earlier customers were walking about with huge bundles of GI Joe vehicles and sets in boxes. Two full rooms of comics; a few big keys were priced separately (ASM 129, ASM 300, Harbinger 1, etc.) but everything else was (I think) $5 for bronze and $1 for anything newer. With all of the keys still in there. I was not the first comic guy in there, but still left with a huge haul. I doubt I'll ever see anything like that again.
  11. What exactly is " high grade " ? I see many flaws... `High grade` encompasses grades other than 9.8. That`s a point that`s been lost on modern slab collectors. It seems facetious to say that high grade is `higher than mid grade`, but that`s the truth of the matter. Traditionally, that transition been seen to happen in the VF range. The above book is high grade. Yeah, all that, except the listing description says it's NM/M.
  12. Thanks! Sorry I forgot to revisit this post. Here's the story of how Intel paid $10k for a cruddy copy of it in 2005: https://newsroom.intel.com/editorials/moores-law-electronics-magazine/#gs.636o2u Per the article: "So the company went looking for an original copy of that April 19, 1965 issue of Electronics magazine. But not just any copy, said High. “We were looking for the best one we could find, either mint or excellent condition,” he said..." "The earliest respondents had magazines that were in less than ideal condition, but just four days after word had spread came photographic evidence of a near-mint copy." "Now 50 years off the printing press, the magazine is too delicate to flip through or even lay flat, according to Elizabeth Jones, manager of the Intel Museum and Intel archives. “The binding is very fragile,” she said. “It’s practically shredding, so we have to handle it very carefully.” "This made it all the more remarkable that one in excellent condition surfaced 40 years after it was first published. High, a technology communications professional who lived a life of “sound bytes,” said it was amazing that Clark had a copy in such fine condition." That doesn't sound like a near-mint copy to me.
  13. What exactly is " high grade " ? I see many flaws... Listing says NM/M, so high grade = 9.8. No back cover scan/picture?
  14. Someone just negotiated a Cinderella Love #25 on feebay.
  15. He’s trying on his sarcasm pants. And going by recent sales, he may have lost some money by selling two copies in one listing.
  16. Cincy.....Not saying the Cfrogs were the best deal ever...I just picked 'em up for the van Sciver art....with discount everything cost 75 cents each so no complaints on the purchase from me..... The gist of my comment was lost in there somewhere... What I meant was: Any Cyberfrog for $1 is a good deal; I usually only find the regular covers, though. Did you find some variant covers and/or an ashcan? If so, those are great finds.
  17. Which convention? Are some of those Cyberfrogs the variants? I usually find the regular covers for < $1.
  18. Does PayPal freeze accounts based on activity or someone reporting it?
  19. I don't understand how some groups have rules to not let sellers use Friends and Family, yet the admins will sell books and only take Friends and Family. I guess because they are "trusted" sellers? But that doesn't get around the fact they are breaking PP's rules. And god forbid you bring that up to them.
