Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
manetteska replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Don't forget Cap #217. I really hope I held onto some of the copies I hoarded. I buy up a stuff very pre-hype pricing, wait for the price surge, never see it, sell, then it explodes. -

Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay

Not to derail into convention pricing, but... I understand sellers "adjusting" raw prices for conventions as sellers can see the comic in-person, flip through it, make sure the centerfold is attached (or even smell it), etc. I get that. What I don't get is jacking up prices on graded comics when the price (at least on non-GA) is pretty much known. If I can buy an ASM 129 9.0 for $2000 with a couple clicks, at home, why would I buy it for $2500 at a convention?

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
manetteska replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
If people think this place is bad, go check out Instagram. Huge $ books and the sellers want Friends and Family only. Other gear-grinding (specific to IG): Adding the hashtag #comicsforsale and a). when asked, the book is not for sale or b). the price is best offer. If you want to sell the book, set a price. -
Relisted as a BIN for $650 less.

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I'm still trying to figure out what this means. -

Gotcha. Didn’t know if there was something specific taut happened today at the show RM was talking about. Friday was weird; the show opens kind of late (compared to other shows) but was a good crowd until about 3:00. Then the comic area seemed like a ghost town.

Why were the dealers not happy?

Doesn’t open until 11:30 on Friday?

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
manetteska replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Nor will I. I haven't been apart of the group for almost two years. Theres no purpose. It still wouldn't "prove" that it's still going on besides what I've posted. There are enough drama stars on these forums already. If you don't agree this one is shilled, cool. If you knew the eBay names of people in that group or their shill accounts and could be seen bidding on this auction (or others) that would go a long way. Even after two years I bet many of the same accounts are used. I don’t understand how asking for proof is unheard of these days. I’m just supposed to believe it because someone on the board said so? -

My comment, as far as shilling, was aimed specifically at the board member saying he has proof of group/site collusion (though has yet to provide any). My broader comment was regarding other modern threads where random sellers are accused of selling a fake error comic and/or a member saying a printing/color error comic is more or less rare than a ratio variant. Just random nonsense with nothing to back it up. -

I, too, like to know how these schemes work and the groups/people behind them. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, just proof is needed. Too many people (not you, perhaps) throwing around accusations b/c they believe something is true. Kind of becoming the norm... -
Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

There are multiple high activity bidders with this seller. Bid retraction. Current bid is well over double the price of last trade dress book that sold on ebay. It's a TCM book. None of that is proof. -

Yes. Click on the little linky that says, "Another". While it certainly could be someone outside the TCMI group, since they just got them in, that's unlikely. Obviously, not all 600 members shill their books but some do consistently. I think people are reading too much into bidding data. While a single user bidding a lot on one item may signal shilling, it is definitely not the definitive "proof" people think it is. The winner has bid on a lot of different items across eBay (including Silver Age and toys), and 1 bid with this seller. The second bidder has 1 bid over the last 30 days, and it's only this item (hence 100% activity with this seller). The third bidder bid on 3 items over 30 days, 1 of them from this seller (which is really 33% activity not 66%). Where is the shilling? -

I have two auction items on payment hold for a potential Tuesday coupon; I hope we can do better than $3 off.

So now that C2E2 is over what did everyone get??

A lot of opportunities for big spenders at this show, but that is not me. I’m also not inspecting wall books with a miner’s headlamp for pressing and/or CPR opportunities. I look for one or two GA books for my personal collection and spend most of my time box-diving. So no wall pictures here. By the time I made it to the convention floor (about 10:10 Friday) both Comics4Less and Victory comics (setups with a lot of $1/$2 books) were swamped, elbow-to-elbow with large guys with large backpacks or roller bags. Not a fun scene. I took a quick look but moved on to lesser known pastures. The majority of the below was picked up for $3 or less, save for five comics and the Deadly Hands magazine. And to avoid the dreaded double-post I added some pictures of the Spawn run I found for $1 each. Missing a few of the homage covers, but that’s fine by me. Lastly, my one GA purchase: a Frazetta Famous Funnies from Worldwide. Now I have to buy the rest.
