  1. Sterling - Don't worry about the pre-code stuff, ya don't want it! Just stick to the BA material. Zan - Yeah, they were going overboard with the adjectives, weren't they? "Impact" seems to be out of place with the rest, somehow.
  2. I've said it before, I'll say it again. ACG gets little respect from a lot of horror collectors. However, there are some real ACG gems out there, and this IS one of them. Looks like their foray to break into the EC-style of more intense, graphic horror. Too bad they didn't do more...
  3. How about I round out my "C's" with a couple odds & ends.... Chilling Tales 13, Matt Fox!
  4. ...and with the footsteps of the coming Code approaching, Chamber of Chills is reduced to Chamber of Clues....
  5. Been pretty quiet in the GA forum today, guess I'll throw on the last CoChills in my collection... pretty boring cover, IMO.
  6. That's because it is NOT in the Gerber! They screwed up & put in the first issue 24 (#4) TWICE instead! That being said, it is still misrepresented by a Gerber 3 rating. I'd give it a 4 easy, maybe higher.
  7. This particular issue is probably the toughest Harvey CoC book to find. I don't know why that would be. Maybe because it is toward the end of the run and possibly had spotty distribution?
  8. I owe this one to a trade with fellow board member Shiverbones. Thanks, Shiv! Anyway, this one will be recognised by any fan of the old "horror-punk" band, the Misfits. Glenn Danzig swiped this cover and used the art for their "Die, Die, My Darling" 12" art. Misfits have a huge collector following, making this one hard to come by since probably more music fans are after it compared to comics collectors. Me? I'm a Misfits fan, too. So, this was doubly satisfying to ad to my vault!
  9. I just realized that this is a blood transfusion cover!
  10. Well then Jayman, you should get a real "charge" out of this Lee Elias sizzler!
  11. "Used in SOTI pg.389, decapitation/severed head panels" -OSG This has to be one of the coolest CoC covers. One skeleton has been stabbed in the brain, and the animated skeleton in the foreground looks like it has worms in its casket. Let's not forget the hot chick being bound by her hands & neck in the back. Harvey really liked to terrorize women on their early covers.....
  12. I can handler spoilers on this one. What is "Jelly Death" about? And does it involve peanut butter? The story chronicle's the fate of someone who enrolls in the "Jelly of the Month" club. It turned out to be a pretty good story, mostly for the art which looks like Bob Powell. A scientist (ironically named Larson) comes up with a formula for activating protoplasm, basically creating life. Lots of hypo panels. The problem of course is that the blobs take on unexpected forms & act out in typical blob anti-social behavior; one of which is a giant spider that kills a reporter with a nice neck bite. Larson soon becomes the enemy of the townsfolk, and so he decides to turn the blob on them. I won't "give away" the rest, but it's pretty predictable.....
  13. "Jelly Death"???!!! Sounds like bad luck with cafeteria cuisine.....
  14. I am in agreement. That issue had two Disbrow stories I enjoyed. I may have asked before, but do you have a comprehensive (or close) list of the Star material with the Disbrow interior stories??
  15. Challenge of the Unknown was the first Ace horror comic. Beyond came out two months later, and the other titles didn't get rolling until like a year later in 1951. I don't know when this "NY Joint Legislative" thing took place, but if it was shortly after the release of CHALLENGE, then it would go a long way in explaining why the company quickly toned down their covers. Had they continued doing covers as exploitative as this, Ace might have been a much more sought after line ..... As to the artist, I can't say. If I had to guess, I'd go with Lou Cameron. As for the "other" sister, I feel ripped. Look at her bod! She's a MILF!!
  16. The early covers of Harvey horror were just plain whacked. "Cosmos Aging Machine"??? What the heck do ya suppose the ugly green things are putting in the test tubes? Youth? Sometimes I wonder if the guys at Harvey weren't doing a little mid-century experimentation with illegal substances. Oh well, at least there is a hot chick in a bikini....
  17. "Used in NY Joint Legislative Comm. Publ." - OSG Anyone seen the movie SE7EN? Remember the end with Pitt yelling, "C'mon, man! What's in the box?!" ?? Look closely at the box here! Also, Ace covered up a couple decapitations hanging on the wall in background with the story title cap. Look closely...
  18. This one speaks for itself. Just a wonderful crossgenre gem that I plucked for $25 NOT in 1993, but 2003!!!
  19. I really dig LB Cole covers, but I don't have many of them. Why? Well, I find most of the interior contents of Star comics to be dreadful. Crime, jungle reprints, etc. Since part of the fun for me is reading the horror comics, I have had Star on the backburner. One day, though.....
  20. My only other Black Magic. I know there are a couple of you out there actively buying this series, but for the most part it doesn't seem like this title gets much love from the PCH community.
  21. The last of my Black Cats. Interesting "The Last Man on Earth" blurb. This was a great movie starring Vincent Price based on "I Am Legend" by the incomparable Richard Matheson. The film greatly influenced George Romero in making Night of the Living Dead. However, this BC came out in 1954, and the Price vehicle would not come out for roughly another decade.
  22. Scrooge, I'm with you in the bondage camp as opposed to "racist". Can't deny people being tied down! Oh, and it's not a "high-jack," it's a contribution! Keep 'em coming!
  23. What Black Cat run would be complete without this one.... paid $20 in 1995
