Here’s the thing… a lot of these links you’re posting have zero descriptions. My personal rule of thumb on CAF… if the owner can’t be bothered to write anything about the piece, neither can I. They get a like.

A reason I stopped browsing a while ago was because a lot of the "new items" weren't even new but older inventory that had been on the site for a while and was just getting refreshed to the top of the results.

That’s why ‘new’ is always in quotation marks.

Edit: Upon blocking this dingbat, I saw there is another person with a similar user name (different number) with zero posts. So yeah: troll.

Maybe don’t start a discussion with Holocaust examples then expect everyone to ignore the Holocaust examples. Ffs. And you think Fisch is a troll?

Can we delete this thread already?

But did you really look at them?

Compared to the mediocre ones in the last batch these were even more lacking in images that would induce bidding.

They weren’t top tier, but I didn’t think the ones that went for 7-12K last month were either. Seems like each coulda eked out another grand or two if it wasn’t a surprise short premium sale.

I heard a different story regarding the Campbell/Stan signatures.... anyone in the know want to tell it?

I’m not in the know, but weren’t a lot of these bad sig pages from the collection of somebody that worked for Stan that allegedly stole from him? I seem to remember accusations of the collection now being sold purchased with money allegedly stolen from Stan.

  6. You’re gonna get a lot of different responses here. What I’ll say…

The site is pretty antiquated and is not updated. If you see something you like, you gotta email. Chances are it’s not still available, but you never know. Spencer is hit and miss with emails. I’ve gotten quick responses before (within 24 hours) and other times nothing after a month so I’ll email again. It’s been said the site will get an update / refresh at some point, but I’ve been hearing that for years, so take it with a grain of salt. Spencer is pretty active selling with Clan McDonald on Facebook if you’re looking for more modern stuff. Never heard anything bad about Spencer himself, but I don’t bother with his site anymore. 2c

I tend to look at art through the perspective of what makes good art great - if I only looked at art for the things I like, it'd be a pretty boring hobby.

A $350 Wonder Woman painting, $500 Clayton Crain and Mark Silvestri Wolverine sketches, a published page with Superman and Batman for $750, a John McCrea Red Sonja cover, a vintage Ernie Chan Batman pinup from the 70s, a Black Widow Art Deco cover, a David Finch pinup, a painted Duke Nukem cover, a Mike Vosburg cover, two unbelievable Bill Ward drawings, a 90's spidey action page, a Russ Heath Sgt Rock page, a published Savage Sword of Conan pinup, a Joe Simon painted published book cover, a 90's Fastner and Larsen published pinup, a couple of 1960s Archie complete stories, a Mike Perkins Avengers/X-Men cover, two 90's Spidey/Hulk fight pages, a Sal Buscema 70's Hulk fight page, not to mention the two pieces you posted - and that's a 'Meh' for your reaction? Man, I feel sorry for you.

It didn’t seem like a ton sold before the recap, so clearly I’m not the only person that didn’t find everything amazing. And you can save your pity. (thumbsu

Wow - right out of the gate, these guys had amazing art tonight. Big, big pieces at all price points throughout the show.

Haven’t watched in a while. Just skimmed it to see all the ‘amazing’ art. Meh. I liked the Ms Marvel page and the Ralph Reese painting was cool. That was about it. (shrug)

Interesting point.  I usually don't post "sub par" commissions/sketches or ones that I don't do it for me (e.g. poorly drawn fishnets on the Black Canary).  I mean, unless I intended to sell it.

I have some of those as well. The artist met the brief more or less, but the pieces don’t do it for me. It happens.

I am still on the fence whether or not to post a TERRIBLE commission from years ago.  It could potentially hurt the artists' reputation.

That’s a personal call. I’d only negatively post if the artist didn’t do what was requested, and wasn’t willing to work out an alternative solution.

Same goal as last year - try to get pages to a few books I’m trying to put back together.
And I’ll probably sell a few things for the fist time in years. I’m sure I’ll buy more than I’ll sell, but I’d like to start curating my collection a bit more next year.

Found 3 more pages to one of the books I’m trying to complete.
Sold about a dozen pieces. Bought way more than that. Did a decent job of curating - sold pieces that I was over represented on or wasn’t passionate about, and filled in some gaps. So a good year.

When an inker finishes working on a page with pencils, their last action is go over the page with an eraser and remove all (most) of the remaining graphite. It's always cracked me up when we talk about inks-over-pencils, like a Kirby/Sinnott, that there are no Kirby pencils left on the page once Sinnott was done. So a published piece that is inks-over-pencils fully guarantees the destruction of all traces of the penciller's work. Inks on separate boards, or even bluelines, provides you with concrete evidence of the work done by the penciller in creating the page that a inks-over-pencils piece doesn't.

Don't interpret this incorrectly...I'm fully on board for published inks-over-pencils as superior over all other options. Just pointing out one of the quirks of OA collecting that I've had to explain to non-OA people when they look at the framed pieces on my wall, and I have to say, well, the inker actually erased all the pencils...

Interesting point, although I will say not always the case, especially with blue pencils. I love seeing the pages where the inker chose not to erase the blue pencils. You get both takes on the page.
