Seems to me that the biggest obstacle to higher sales on CL is the snipe-based auction conclusion, rather than allowing bidders to duke it out, taking each piece to higher valuations until someone drops out. That would take a complete rewrite of their auction interface, but it could be done.

Although I agree the snipe option is not always the best, I appreciate that the auctions have a set end time. Actually helps me plan out what I’m going to bid on - I can just set an alarm on my phone like a month out. There’s always items I miss on HA because I’m not going to sit around all Sunday to bid - I love my art, but I love SoCal Sundays more. And half the time I give up on CC because I have no desire to bid on one piece for half an hour.

  2. There’ve been countless conversations and suggestions over the years, and it’s clear that Clink gives zero fs about updating their business. I’ve come to accept it. With HA’s fees, I still think Clink is the better option for lower priced items - I used to think sub 10K, but I’d probably adjust to sub 5K at this point. Eventually, they’ll stop being any kind of competition and HA will have a stranglehold on the market - which will be good for nobody but HA.

  3. I had 4 items in this one that were kinda all over the place, but overall good with the results. I will say that I don’t think Clink does the best job of hyping the focused auctions the days before like they do their featured - and without the daily tracking emails like what you get with heritage, it’s easy to forget the auction’s ending. I probably would have forgotten about it if not for having pieces up.

I believe Janke got 1/2 the art so don’t think Bog has all that many Doomsday pages. I personally think he sold early but hope he does well and am sure he has a few awesome pieces he’ll hold long term. I’m just happy he’s the one benefitting from the auction.

This might be the majority of his Supes stuff, but pretty sure he had a decent amount of OA in general that had been sitting in storage til last year. But yeah, happy he’s getting the money.

I’ve never bid on ComicConnect before. How does it differ from say, HA?

Been a while since I’ve bid, but I think it’s if you bid on a lot the last 3 minutes, it adds another 3 minutes from the time of your bid. So a lot can take some time to end if people keep bidding when it’s about up.

The ComicConnect auction on Monday has a ton of super inexpensive things now too, I'm surprised

I figure the way ComicConnect works, makes more sense to keep prices low so if you keep adding those 3 minutes on at the end, you can keep anyone bidding against you on for hours.

But, these are at the beginning, not at the end during the live auction period. What’s the point of a high price now if it can’t win until a lot of time has passed and other bidders can take their shots at you?

Everybody has their own strategy. I’d imagine high price early works on a few levels. For some, they have a set price, so why not put it in early so you can move on if outbid? And also to scare others off. Doesn’t always work, but there’s def been a few times I was eyeing something that shot up quick, so I refocused on another piece.

That was so fun to see the sketchbook.  Thanks for sharing.

After the famous Michael Golden "Patience is a Virue" was revealed, I saw him at a comic con.  He was sitting alone at his table at an artist alley.  I loved the Micronauts but this put me off from trying to ever get anything from him.  But as I was walking by, he tried talking to me to get me to come over to his table, even after I walked past it.  Maybe business was bad after that Virue business and he was trying to get people to look at his stuff.  If I ever see him at a con I usually run away fast because I don't want to be treated that way.

Yeah, saw him at NoLa a month or two ago. Granted it was a slower con, but I walked by his table and nobody there. He was all smiles and I probably could’ve gotten a sketch… but when artists act s**tty to fans that don’t merit it, I check out. Got some beignets instead.

Yeah, I noticed there have already been some surprising bids too.  I had been "watching" around 12 pages, now its quickly down to about 3-4 :(.

Also, could just be fresh quality pages entering the market (shrug)

Yeah, there’s a few things I’m tracking I’m surprised by the prices of already, even in this market.

I get that this is frustrating, but it's not really that late all things considered.  I would just pay the 10% and let it go.

Having said that, I don't think 10% is enough motivation to get a flaky artist to complete the work.  If you're going to go with this strategy, then you probably need to go with 50% or something in that vicinity.

Yeah, I’m thoroughly confused by the 90/10 split. 50/50 seems to be pretty standard, but the way you’re describing it is that you expect the 10% off if it’s not competed by the due date?

There’s a lot of aspirational pricing up right now. This Moon Knight page went up a week or two ago for an already lofty 30 something K. Didn’t sell immediately, so relisted 20K more to 57k.
