  1. What makes you say that? Can't imagine it's the case. If you mean the variant issue, that's not popularity, that's an example of extreme rarity creating huge demand for a tiny handful of people. Star War #1 is more sought after because it is collected outside of comic collectors. You have Star Wars collectors that don't collect any other comics. Which proves my point that Star Wars #1 has more universal appeal than GSX1. GSX1 is a top generational appeal book in that young people/collectors of the 70s and 80s put much more emphasis on it`s importance, than people who grew up in the 60s,90 and now do. With AF#15 and Star Wars #1 we will find that they transcend all generations and have much more universal appeal than GSX1. *Ahem* With all due respect, star wars 1 is nowhere near the same league as gsxm 1 and should not even be spoken in the same breath as AF 15. I suspect by the tone of your post you're being a bit cheeky on purpose ? Star wars 1 is the epitome of mass produced "collector's item" fodder and is really only significant perhaps for being the original "movie hype book". My 2 cents. -J.
  2. This blog overlooks the obvious ebay shilling that artificially inflated the price of the book and how it has already dropped significantly off from those manufactured highs. -J.
  3. Ended already. Here That looks like the more recent one. Here's the one before that: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spiderman-678-Mary-Jane-Venom-Joe-Quinones-Variant-Cover-NM-/351329366668?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51ccdcb28c -J.
  4. Out of curiousity, what is your deterant - the slowing growth curve or upfront required investment? You deal in books so you clearly have an investment model. What makes AF 15 better or worse than a Hulk 1 or BB 28 (or pick another book if you like)? Is it a profit margin or profit dollars thing? Books like Avengers 1 and JIM 83 are fairly cheap versus their counterparts and have plenty of room to climb - are they good choices? Interested in a more detailed perspective. Hamlet made a good point earlier when he stated stocks can be measured by earnings in terms of value. I'm of the belief that the value of comics can be measured using a combination of price, demand and scarcity. For example, there are roughly 750 Universal Hulk 1's on the census and around 70 Captain America Comics #1's. Assuming demand is roughly equal for both books one could expect the CAC 1 to be 10 X more valuable than the Hulk 1, but this is not the case. It's around 4 X more valuable in mid grade so something has to give. Either the Hulk 1 is too expensive or the CAC 1 is too cheap. I would also imagine the odds of finding a Hulk 1 in the wild are significantly greater than that of a Cap 1. Having said all that I'm not that big of a baller to dive into either book at the $20k-$100k range. My sweet spot is $200-$1500. I don't have the capital to pile that much dough into 1 book. My wife would beat me within an inch of my life. Theoretically, I do believe the model I used in the previous paragraph is sensible though. Not for nothing but I do believe a cap 1 in mid grade is probably closer to 7X hulk 1 right now in same grade. Maybe even more. Great post by the way. (thumbs u -J.
  5. -J. The question is: will the transaction actually be completed? I know the seller, so I'll find out. That would be an interesting follow up. I also see another auction for a raw copy that one-bidded for $1,200 a few days ago. And the 9.4 SS has a couple dozen watchers after just 48 hours. There is little doubt either way that the book has legs and lightning in the bottle, for whatever the reason. -J.
  6. Sharp looking copy. This book is starting to flirt with the $1k threshold in a 9.8. -J.
  7. Agreed. I would rather be mortgage free. I dunno, none of my friends are envious of where I live but some of them would love to have my copy of this book You can tell that story when you're 65 and still working 60 hours a week. (thumbs u It's always funny to me when guys seem to forget they're posting on a comic book blog. -J. Ok then, fair enough. The "VF-" copy ends in -6 hours and is still at the batcrap crazy price of $1475. Anyone think it will go higher and/or how many copies will be listed in the next few days? I'd wager it will finish at its current price. As far as other copies being listed, they'll likely continue to trickle out at their historical rate. (thumbs u -J.

  9. Sure. But everybody has one of those already. -J.
  10. I think Lonzilla said it best. At this point the book is probably more of a bragging rights book, a pride piece so to speak, for Spidey collectors and rare variant hunters alike. In the meantime this guy ended up listing his book after all: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spiderman-678-CGC-9-4-MJ-Venom-Variant-by-Joe-Quinones-Signature-series-/291396683556?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43d8988724&autorefresh=true -J.
  11. Awwww.. But in all seriousness, I think that whether Miles appears in the movie or not, this book will now always command a slight premium, since it had brought more awareness to the character. It was going for 120 +/- in 9.8 before the movie hype and it will probably be a 150-200 book even if not optioned. Just my opinion. Agreed. This book is going to move...unless they kill him off... Somebody got a heck of a deal on those you pointed out last night. I think this book is probably dead for now. At least from the speculator/flipper point of view. My 2 cents. -J. I agree it's got a low pulse. Don't worry Jay, I pull another 9.8 I'll hook you up for your Sig line. It's the right thing to do -J.

  13. They also feature "rare" moderns, not necessarily just recalled. One of my favourite resources actually. I thought it was interesting that they are featuring this comic so soon after publication. -J.
  14. Now featured on recalledcomics.com: http://www.recalledcomics.com/EdgeOfSpider-Verse2-Variant.php -J.
  15. Back into the dollar bins. But in all seriousness, this all sounds and looks promising. Shows the big difference in direction and focus that can result with the character being placed back under Marvel's competent and capable stewardship. -J.
  16. Those are a bunch of cosplayers in those images. You're better off picking up AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #9 (1st part of SPIDER-VERSE) as that's Spider-Gwen's 2nd Appearance. Many have ignored this book. I'm currently selling this coupled with her 1st Appearance (1st Print/NM), with various SPIDER-GIRL #1 variants (including Hughes) on Ebay - 11 Books total. Problem is, how could these be "cosplayers" if the characters did not yet exist? And how about how Gwennie looks dead-on at the reader in the final panel? It will only take one submitter of this book to CGC with a request to update the label with "First Appearance Spider-Gwen, Cameo" or whatever, and Whammo! -J. I can really imagine Marvel writing a story that resolves this comic. SheThor is hunting some magical dimensional/time jumping creature that runs into Spider-Gwen. Gwen teams up with SheThor and chase the creature to a place where it can hide unnoticed...a comic con. They do battle, capture the baddie and return home, and this issue becomes canon. -J.
  17. Which books? I am not trying to be a jerk here, but I cannot recall any bigger character 1st apps that has happened with. Our Army at War 81 used to be Sgt. Rock's first appearance. Then folks wise up and it became Our Army at War 83. Brave and Bold 54 used to be considered Teen Titans' first appearance. Still is. But that'll change, too. I said bigger characters. So, that leaves us with one for now, and a maybe. I am on the fence re: B&B #54 vs. #60 for the simple reason that all they did was add one character and call them the Teen Titans in #60. The core of the team was already in place in #54. Time will tell, I guess. WRT Harley Quinn, the "1st Appearance in DCU" does not hold the same cachet as either of those two instances. In addition, she has 10 or so appearances in comics before the one-shot. That will be tough to overcome. HQ has always had a muddled "first appearance" given how the character originated on a TV show. We've been told BA 12 is the one to have, but a case could be made for the one shot which is also credited as a "first appearance", as being the more significant book. I am not saying it will become the more "valuable" book (though as we have seen, anything is possible), but I don't see how a die hard HQ fan doesn't have that book. -J.
  18. The opening of the thread is all about the price. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6019997&nt=28&fpart=1 To buy what makes you happy - all the power to you. Thinking of this as a "money" or "investment" book you might as well queue Spanky now. I don't think anyone has called this an "investment book". If anything I think most of the posts are from people who have owned the book for a long time, and are pleasantly surprised by the strong collector interest in the book, but still have no plans to sell. (thumbs u -J.
  19. Can we rename this thread 'Ultimate Fallout 4 fallout' when this happens? Prescient. -J.
  20. Same "winning" bidder in two of those three auctions, and the under - bidder who drove up the price in the middle auction as well. -J.

  22. That's likely steep for a 9.4. But hey can't blame a guy for trying. -J.
