  1. I collected the only comics that ever interested me. There is really no more to say about it than that. As a kid I turned my nose up at Marvels and bought DCs. I was just kidding. I know the valley between Marvel and DC collectors is huge. I was never a DC fan though I do appreciate them greatly and collect the odd DC now. I'm sure there was a time when the task seemed unachievable. 1) Do remember periods of time when you almost gave up or started to doubt your qeust? 2) Do you remember a time when you began to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel? Roy.
  2. 1963 I don't know about you but I would have started with Marvels.
  3. Yes I would, although one Danger Trail is quite scarce. I heard that but did not realize it was such a tough run. There is a dealer I know with a very high grade copy of #4 I think (can't remember which one)....blue cover with a man holding a knife I believe...it's about a 9.0 or so. He wants crazy money for it though. Somewhere in the neighbourhood of $1000. Are the really that tough? R.
  4. So I guess his $2000 asking price was a smidgen on the high side. I figured it to be under a grand but I never followed up. Good thing too...last two big books I bought had pro CT on them. R.
  5. Man that is a great book. There was one in Toronto last year and I almost picked it up. Price was a bit steep though it is a tough book. What would you say would be a fair price for a 7.5 or an 8.0? R.
  6. Yes but if I part with that New Adventure 14, I won't have it to offer you any more. pm sent to Ian on the New Adventure #14
  7. Ian, do you share the same excitement over a "big" book like a key or rare book as you would a more common or less expensive book such as a SA common JLA issue? R.
  8. Hit a BIN on eBay about 2 years ago. I'd love to trade as I vowed a long time ago I'd not pay more than $1000 for it, simply because it's not worth it. But I let all my Golden Age spares go to Harley. I still have a spare New Adventure 14 and a spare More Fun 58 (Spectre cover, the one with the pendulum), which I left with someone else, but I think the NA 14 has the wrong back cover and the More Fun has a centrefold missing but only ad pages, not story. I'd trade you the pair for the Supergear. They still gotta be worth $2000 together, purely because of the enormous rarity of the New Adventure. Come in please, Flying Donut, You never responed to my suggestion. New Adventure 14 is worth more than Supergear. It's almost as rare as 13, and I'm offering it to you as well as More Fun 58. Please consider it ? Ian, sometimes a pm will get someone's attention better than a thread post as posts get missed but pm's don't. (thumbs u
  9. Wow, that JO #134 is an tough book and that is about the nicest 9.4 you will ever find! R.
  10. Many reputable dealers can sell books unslabbed and get good money for them so there is no reason to slab for them. Many collectors crack their slabs and put their books into Mylars. I wonder how many labels actually get sent back after the slabs are cracked.
  11. It's now an 8.0. The pages inside are perfect and almost white. But the cover looked like a rag but now looks perfect and pristine. Matt Nelson did it. I would never have been happy with it looking the way it did, with rips and dirt on the cover. Hey Ian...how much of your collection would you trade for all the missing episodes? Hey Ian, how many more posts by this guy before you catch on to his sarcasm.
  12. I'm going to be posting some more stuff for sale either tonite or tomorrow night. I'll have everything from some Punisher CA books, to some bronze to mid/hi grade SA and even a few GA books. Most stuff will be either new or fomerly posted but reduced. R.
  13. ...and when you say 'let it go" do you mean if and when he chooses to sell the collection,...or his sphincter muscles shortly after he expires,...cause he should have a plan for either,... Well, I didn't want to be morbid but if he should pass away, or choose to get rid of it before hand....I figured "when it is time" covered all that rather politely. You and your sphincter obsession.
  14. Ian two questions (one might be touchy as I asked it before and did not get an answer). Do you have plans for the collection when it is time to let it go? What do you think of the Timely/Marvel/Atlas universe? Roy.
  15. Thanks for the intro....you just had to call me out! My corner stone comic. Front cover: Amazing copy Roy. What was the story on it again? The book was an old label 9.0 MP off white. It has very little resto done to it as it had an SP? written in the grading notes when I called CGC. Would have graded higher than 9.0 if the book did not have a stain on the back cover top left. I procured the book from our own Centaurman who graciously allowed me to take care of it after he shifted his focus. It was also previously owned by Bedrock, Ciorac and maybe another boardie. It's found a home with me.
  16. I know how you feel. This book to me is so emotional. The allies rushing to help, the calm determination in Subby's eyes is so real, the girl seems terrified and surprised at the same time and I love the way Subby has the Nazi by the throat. It makes his eyes bulge in unexpected fear. I collect only early Schomburg for art like this. Have fun with your new #4! R.
